Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Other Woman directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kate Upton, Taylor Kinney and Nicki Minaj. Aaron Zigman (Bridge to Tarabithia, The Proposal) who previously collaborated with the directors on such movies as John Q, The Notebook and My Sister’s Keeper has composed the film’s original score. Also opening wide this weekend is the horror thriller The Quiet Ones directed by John Pogue and starring Jared Harris, Sam Claflin, Erin Richards, Rory Fleck-Byrne and Olivia Cooke. The film’s original music is composed and performed by Lucas Vidal (Fast & Furious 6, The Raven). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs by The Noizeby Slade and T.Rex and three original Radio Caroline jingles from the 70s. The third wide release of the week is the action thriller Brick Mansions directed by Camille Delamarre, scripted by Luc Besson and starring Paul Walker, David Belle, RZA. Trevor Morris (Immortals, The Borgias, White House Down) has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Brick Mansions is a remake of 2004’s French film District B13 and follows an undercover cop who is tasked with going into a tenement named Brick Mansions in order to disarm a neutron bomb that is ticking down. Opening in limited release is the indie drama Locke written and directed by Steven Knight and starring Tom Hardy, Ruth Wilson, Olivia Colman, Andrew Scott, Tom Holland and Bill Milner. The film’s original music is composed by Dickon Hinchliffe (Winter’s Bone, Out of the Furnace, Shadow Dancer). A soundtrack featuring the composer’s score has been released overseas by Fiction Records. No word yet on a domestic release date of the album. Also opening in select theaters is the documentary For No Good Reason directed by Charlie Paul and narrated by Johnny Depp about artist Ralph Steadman who is celebrated for his illustrations accompanying the writings of Hunter S Thompson. Grammy Award-nominated songwriter Sacha Skarbek serves as the film’s music director. The movie also features songs by Slash, All American Rejects, Jason Mraz, Lynval Golding, Ed Harcourt, James Blake, Crystal Castles and more. No soundtrack album has been announced yet. Also opening in limited release is the indie thriller Blue Ruin written and directed by Jeremy Saulnier and starring Macon Blair, Devin Ratray, Amy Hargreaves, Kevin Kolack and Eve Plumb. Blue Ruin follows a mysterious outsider whose quiet life is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance. Another limited release this weekend is the French drama Young & Beautiful written and directed by Francois Ozon and starring Marine Vacth, Géraldine Pailhas, Frédéric Pierrot and Charlotte Rampling. Philippe Rombi who previously collaborated with the director on such films as Swimming Pool, Angel, In the House and Potiche has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as songs Françoise Hardy, M83, Crystal Castles, The Citizens and Poni Hoax has been released overseas last summer. Also opening in select theaters is the thriller Last Passenger directed by Omid Nooshin and starring Dougray Scott, Kara Tointon, Lindsay Duncan, Iddo Goldberg and David Schofield. The film’s original music is composed by Liam Bates. MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last fall when the film opened in the UK. Also opening in limited release is the period drama Walking with the Enemy directed by Mark Schmidt and starring Ben Kingsley, Jonas Armstrong, Hannah Tointon, Burn Gorman, Mark Wells, William Hope, Flora Spencer-Longhurst and Mark Wingett. Timothy Williams (Sym-Bionic Titan) has composed the film’s original music and recorded his score with a 90-piece orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The drama is set in Hungary during the final months of World War ll and follows a young man who sets out to find his displaced family by using a stolen Nazi uniform to pose as an officer. Another limited release is the sci-fi thriller The Machine written and directed by Caradog W James and starring Toby Stephens, Caity Lotz, Denis Lawson,John Paul Macleod, Sam Hazeldine and Pooneh Hajimohammadi. Tom Raybould has composed the film’s original score. MovieScore Media has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music earlier this week. Also opening in select theaters is the sports drama From the Rough directed by Pierre Bagley and starring Taraji P. Henson, Michael Clarke Duncan, Tom Felton, LeToya Luckett, Justin Chon, Ben Youcef, Henry Simmons, Robert Bailey Jr. and Paul Hodge. The film’s original music is composed by Mateo Messina (Juno, Butter, Growing Up Fisher). No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening in limited release is the Argentine drama The German Doctor written and directed by Lucía Puenzo anf starring Alex Brendemühl, Natalia Oreiro, Diego Peretti, Elena Roger, Guillermo Pfening, Alan Daicz and Florencia Bado. Andres Goldstein and Daniel Tarrab have composed the film’s original music. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Finally arriving in the U.S. after several delays is the crime comedy Gambit directed by Michael Hoffman, written by Joel & Ethan Coen and starring Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman, Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman. The film’s original music is composed by Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Up in the Air). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as as songs by Robby Armstrong, Peggy Lee and Moe Brandy overseas.
