James Newton Howard has been tapped to score the action thriller The Bourne Legacy. The film stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton and Stacy Keach. Albert Finney, Scott Glenn and Joan Allen are reprising their roles from the previous parts of the series. The project marks the composer’s first score for the franchise. The previous three installments have been scored by John Powell. The fourth Bourne movie is written and directed by Tony Gilroy who was involved as a writer on the previous movies in the series and has previously worked with Newton Howard on his first two directorial efforts Michael Clayton and Duplicity. No specific plot details have been revealed yet for The Bourne Legacy, but it has been reported that Renner will be playing a new character in the thriller. Frank Marshall (Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Sixth Sense) is producing the movie alongside Ben Smith, Jeffrey Weiner and Pat Crowley (Eagle Eye, The Other Guys). Universal Pictures is planning to release the film on August 3, 2012.

I don’t understand. Where is Powell ? This is ridiculous… I don’t have any problem with Howard just I don’t see the thinking of the director. And now ? Howard will stole the main theme or what ? What extra stuff ? I’m shocked… :((
It’s a different Bourne. It’s a new story, new characters.
The bourne Legacy without Powell and without Damon? And the history is diferent the film than book.
sigh….the whole Bourne theme will be different. Lame. So disappointing Powell decided not to reprise his role. I’m even less inclined to go watch now.
