EmmoLei Sankofa (Step Up, Three Ways, Lizzo’s Watch Out For the Big Grrrls, Horror Noire) has been tapped to score the new Hulu original series The Other Black Girl. The show is based on Zakiya Dalila Harris’ best-selling novel of the same name and stars Sinclair Daniel, Ashleigh Murray, Hunter Parrish, Brittany Adebumola, Bellamy Young, Eric McCormack and Garcelle Beauvais. The comedy follows an African American editorial assistant at a predominantly white publishing firm who gets excited when a new black co-worker gets hired, but discovers something sinister is going on at the company. Co-showrunners Jordan Reddout and Gus Hickey are executive producing the Onyx Collective production with Rashida Jones, Adam Fishbach (Love, Victor, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies), Harris, Tara Duncan (Narcos, Sense8), as well as Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen & Wyck Godfrey (Smile, The Maze Runner). The first two episodes of The Other Black Girl are premiering tonight at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival and the full series will debut on September 13, 2023 on Hulu.

EmmoLei has also recently scored the new Disney Launchpad short Project CC directed by Cashmere Jasmine and written by Jasmine Johnson. The short, which follows a young scientist who accidentally clones her family dog and must resolve the situation before her parents come home, is premiering at the HollyShorts Festival this weekend.
