Rob Simonsen is reteaming with director Jason Reitman on the upcoming biographical drama The Front Runner. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Vera Farming, J.K. Simmons, Mamoudou Athie, Josh Brener, Kaitlyn Dever, Tommy Dewey, Molly Ephraim, Spencer Garrett, Ari Graynor, Toby Huss, Mike Judge, Alex Karpovsky, Mark O’Brien, Sara Paxton, Kevin Pollak and Steve Zissis. The movie chronicles the rise and fall of Gary Hart, a charismatic U.S. Senator from Colorado, who was considered the frontrunner for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination when his campaign was sidelined by the story of an extramarital relationship with Donna Rice. Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking) also co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Carson and Matt Bai based on Bai’s book All the Truth Is Out. He is also producing the project with Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Casual) for Right of Way Film, alongside Aaron L. Gilbert (The Birth of a Nation, Beatriz at Dinner) for Bron Studios. Simonsen has previously scored Reitman’s last feature, Tully. The Front Runner is set to be released in select theaters on November 7, 2018 by Sony Pictures before expanding nationwide over the following weeks.

Simonsen’s upcoming projects also include Rupert Wyatt’s sci-fi thriller Captive State, which is set to be released on March 29, 2019 by Focus Features. He also scored Julia Hart’s supernatural drama Fast Color, which premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and Neil Burger’s The Upside, which premiered at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Both movies are currently awaiting release dates.
