Rick Smith has composed the score for the upcoming thriller Trance. The film is directed by Danny Boyle and stars James McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. The movie follows a fine art auctioneer mixed up with a criminal gang who joins forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting. The thriller is based on a BBC film written by Joe Ahearne who has penned the screenplay for the project with John Hodge (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave). Christian Colson (Slumdog Millionaire) is producing the Film4 presentation of a Cloud Eight/Decibel Films production. Smith is best known as a member of the British electronic music group Underworld. Boyle has previously collaborated with the group on the 1996 drama Trainspotting, the sci-fi film Sunshine, as well the opening ceremony of last year’s Olympic Games in London. The director’s previous two movies (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) featured music by A.R. Rahman. Trance is set to be released on March 27, 2013 in the UK. Fox Searchlight will be distributing the film in the US and has yet to announce a release date.
