Terence Blanchard has begun recording his score for the upcoming crime drama Black Klansman. The film is directed by Spike Lee and stars John David Washington, Topher Grace, Adam Driver, Jasper Paakkonen, Laura Harrier and Corey Hawkins. The movie is based on Ron Stallworth’s autobiography and tells the story of a police detective who dared to challenge the Ku Klux Klan and thwart its attempts to take over Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lee is also producing the Monkeypaw, QC Entertainment and Blumhouse production with Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko), Raymond Mansfield, Shaun Redick, Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity) and Jordan Peele (Get Out).

Bruce Hornsby has been tapped to score the upcoming Netflix original series She’s Gotta Have It. The show is created by Spike Lee (Do the Right Thing, Inside Man, 25th Hour) and stars DeWanda Wise, Lyriq Bent, Cleo Anthony, Anthony Ramos, Chyna Layne and Ilfenesh Hadera. The comedy based on Lee’s 1986 film revolves around a Brooklyn-based sexually liberated, free spirited painter/mixed media artist in her late 20s who struggles to define herself and divide her time among her friends, job and three lovers.
‘Chi-Raq’ Soundtrack Details
RCA Records will release a soundtrack album for Spike Lee’s comedy drama Chi-Raq. The album features the songs from the Amazon Studios release by such artists as Nick Cannon, R. Kelly feat. Epic Records has released a soundtrack album for Spike Lee’s Kickstarter-funded thriller Da Sweet Blood of Jesus. Bruce Hornsby Scoring Spike Lee’s ‘Da Sweet Blood of Jesus’
Bruce Hornsby is composing the score for Spike Lee’s upcoming indie romantic horror comedy Da Sweet Blood of Jesus. The Kickstarter-funded film stars Michael K. Williams, Felicia Pearson, Elvis Nolasco, Zaraah Abrahams, Steven Hauck and Stephen Tyrone Williams. No plot details have been revealed yet, but the movie is said to be a love story and centers on human beings who are addicted to blood. Lee has also written the screenplay and is producing the project. Raphael Saadiq (Black Nativity) has been announced as the film’s executive music director last year. Hornsby previously made his narrative film scoring debut on Lee’s indie drama Red Hook Summer and also composed a score for the director’s Oldboy, but the Grammy Award-winning singer’s music ended up being replaced.

Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) wrote the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House) and Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the project.

Michael Nyman has taken over scoring duties on Spike Lee’s upcoming English language remake of Oldboy. The film starring Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen and Sharlto Copley follows an advertising executive who is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement and sets out to find out who held him hostage and why when he is inexplicably released. Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) has written the screenplay based on Chan-wook Park’s critically acclaimed Korean film from 2003 and Roy Lee & Doug Davison (The Strangers, The Lake House), as well as Nathan Kahane (Juno, 50/50) are producing the Good Universe and Vertigo Entertainment/40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks production. The project marks Nyman’s first major American feature scoring assignment in several years.
