Caldera Records has announced a soundtrack album for Mike Leigh’s drama Hard Truths. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Gary Yershon (Mr. Turner, Happy-Go-Lucky, Brighton, Another Year, Trial and Retribution, 23 Walks). Also included is the composer’s score from Leigh’s previous feature Peterloo (partially released as a digital EP back in 2018), as well as the director’s stage plays Grief and Two Thousand Years. A digital version is also expected in the coming days (visit Amazon or any other major digital music services to stream/download). Hard Truths is written and directed by Leigh and stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Michele Austin, David Webber, Tuwaine Barrett, Ani Nelson, Sophia Brown and Jonathan Livingstone.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 5, 2019)
Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Shazam! directed by David F. Sandberg and starring Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Asher Angel, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans. The film’s original music is composed by Benjamin Wallfisch (It, Blade Runner 2049, Hidden Figures). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the horror thriller Pet Sematary directed by Kevin Kölsch & Dennis Widmyer and starring Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, John Lithgow. Christopher Young (Spider-Man 3, Hellraiser, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Drag Me to Hell, Ghost Rider) has composed the film’s original music. Paramount Music has released soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as Starcrawler’s cover of the Ramones’ title song, which plays over the movie’s end credits. ‘Peterloo’ Soundtrack EP Released
Dubois Records has released a soundtrack EP for Mike Leigh’s period drama Peterloo. The 5-track EP features the film’s original music composed by Gary Yershon who has previously collaborated with the director on his last couple of movies, including Happy-Go-Lucky, Another Year, as well as Mr. Turner, for which the composer received his first Academy Award nomination. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio samples. Peterloo is written and directed by Leigh (Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake) and stars Rory Kinnear, Maxine Peake, Neil Bell, Philip Jackson, Vincent Franklin, Karl Johnson and Tim McInnerny.
Gary Yershon to Score Mike Leigh’s ‘Peterloo’
Gary Yershon will be reteaming with Mike Leigh on the director’s upcoming drama Peterloo. The film is written and directed by Leigh (Secret & Lies, Vera Drake, Topsy-Turvy) and tells the story of the infamous 1819 massacre at a peaceful pro-democracy rally at St. Peter’s Field in Manchester, England, when many working people were injured and killed. Georgina Lowe is producing the Amazon Studios, Film4, the BFI and Lipsync production. Yershon has previously collaborated with Leigh on the director’s previous three features, Happy-Go-Lucky, Another Year and Mr. Turner, for which he received his first Academy Award nomination.
