Jon Ekstrand has signed on to score the upcoming biographical drama Hilma. The film is written and directed by Hallström (The Cider House Rules, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape) and stars Lena Olin, Tora Hallström, Lily Cole, Rebecca Calder, Maeve Dermody and Catherine Chalk. The movie explores the life of Swedish artist and feminist pioneer Hilma af Klint who navigated through a male-dominated artistic scene to eventually become one of the Western world’s first abstract artists. Helena Danielsson (The Childhood of a Leader, Beyond) is producing the NENT Studios production.

Jon Ekstrand to Score Daniel Espinosa’s ‘Madame Luna’
Composer Jon Ekstrand is set to reteam with director Daniel Espinosa on the upcoming refugee drama Madame Luna. The film chronicles the true story of an Eritrean refugee girl, washed ashore in Libya, who becomes one of the most notorious of human traffickers with deep ties to the Italian Mafia. Casting announcements are expected within the next few months. Maurizio Braucci (Gomorrah, Martin Eden, Piranha) and Suha Arraf (Lemon Tree) wrote the screenplay based on an idea by Binyam Berhane.

Opening in theaters nationwide today is the superhero movie Spider-Man: No Way Home directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau and Marisa Tomei. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Spider-Man: Homecoming & Far From Home, Lost, Doctor Strange, Star Trek, Ratatouille, The Incredibles, Jurassic World, Inside Out). Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Jon Ekstrand & Rebekka Karijord Scoring Janus Metz’s ‘All the Old Knives’
Jon Ekstrand and Rebekka Karijord are reuniting to co-score the upcoming thriller All the Old Knives. The film is directed by Janus Metz (ZeroZeroZero, Armadillo) and stars Chris Pine, Thandiwe Newton, Jonathan Pryce and Laurence Fishburne. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Olen Steinhauer (Berlin Station) and revolves around two ex-lovers – one a CIA spy, the other an ex-spy – who meet over dinner to reminisce on their time together at Vienna station, when their conversation moves to the disastrous hijacking of Royal Jordanian Flight 127. Steinhauer also wrote the screenplay.

‘Horizon Line’ Soundtrack to Be Released
Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for the survival thriller Horizon Line. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jon Ekstrand (Morbius, Life, Child 44, Easy Money, Queen of Hearts) & Carl-Johan Sevedag (aka OA). Also included is the end credits song Rescue Me performed by Silverberg feat. Daniella Mason. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, January 15 and will be available to stream/download here. Horizon Line is directed by Mikael Marcimain and stars Allison Williams, Alexander Dreymon and Keith David. The movie revolves around a couple flying on a small plane to attend a tropical island wedding who must fight for their lives after their pilot suffers a heart attack.

Composer Jon Ekstrand has teamed up with Carl-Johan Sevedag (aka OA) of the Swedish electronic pop duo Cape Lion to co-score the upcoming survival thriller Horizon Line. The film is directed by Mikael Marcimain (Call Girl, Gentlemen) and stars Allison Williams, Alexander Dreymon and Keith David. The movie follows a young woman who travelling to a friend’s tropical island wedding on a small single-engine plane, when the pilot suffers a heart attack and herself and the only other passenger, her ex-boyfriend, are forced to work together to stay airborne long enough to find land. Josh Campbell & Matthew Stuecken (10 Cloverfield Lane) wrote the screenplay.
