John Williams was honored with the Saturn Award last night at the 42nd annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the prize in the Best Music category for his score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The other nominated composers were Ennio Morricone (The Hateful Eight), Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road), Johann Johansson (Sicario), M.M. Keeravani (Baahubali: The Beginning) and Fernando Velazquez (Crimson Peak). Williams’ score for the seventh Star Wars episode is available on Walt Disney Records. The composer has previously received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for his work on the film.

The full details of the soundtrack album for Steven Spielberg’s fantasy adventure The BFG have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by John Williams (Star Wars, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark). The soundtrack will be released on July 1, 2016 by Wal t Disney Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The BFG is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill, Jemaine Clement, Rebecca Hall, Penelope Wilton, Rafe Spall and Bill Hader. John Williams to Score Steven Spielberg’s ‘Indiana Jones 5’
Steven Spielberg mentioned in an interview with Entertainment Weekly on the red carpet at last night’s AFI Gala in his honor that John Williams will return to score the fifth, currently untitled Indiana Jones movie. Harrison Ford will return in the title role. No plot details or other casting announcements have been made yet. Kathleen Kennedy (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park) and Frank Marshall (Jurassic World, The Bourne Trilogy, The Sixth Sense) will produce the project.
John Williams to Score Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’
John Williams revealed in a recent interview with Variety that he is set to begin work on Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film adaptation of Ready Player One this coming November. The film will star Tye Sheridan, Oliva Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Win Morisaki, Mark Rylance, Simon Pegg and T.J Miller. The movie is based on the 2011 novel of the same title by Ernest Cline and follows a group of teenagers on a quest for riches in a futuristic virtual world. Spielberg is also producing the project with Donald De Line (The Italian Job, Green Lantern), Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies) and Dan Farah (Armored).
Steven Spielberg to Present John Williams with AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award
The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that Steven Spielberg will present John Williams with the organization’s 44th Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. As previously reported, this marks the first time in AFI history that the honor will be bestowed upon a composer. It was also announced that the televised special, AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to John Williams, will air on TNT on Wednesday, June 15 (10 p.m. ET/ PT), followed by an encore presentation on sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on Monday, June 12, during a night of programming dedicated to Williams.
John Williams to Score ‘Dear Basketball’ Animated Short
John Williams is set to compose the music for the upcoming animated short Dear Basketball. The film is directed by Glen Keane who worked as an animator on such Disney classics as Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and Tangled. Retired NBA star Kobe Bryant is narrating the film, which is being described as an animated ode to basketball. He is also producing the project through his production company Kobe Studios, alongside Believe Entertainment Group.

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have published a behind-the-scenes video featurette about the music for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The video features an interview with composer John Williams about his work on the film and footage from the recording sessions of the score. Williams is up for an Academy Award for his music for the seventh installment in the Star Wars series this coming Sunday. Hollywood Bowl 2016 Season Schedule Announced
The Hollywood Bowl has announced this summer’s season schedule, which includes a number of film music concerts. On July 7 & 8, the Bowl will host its premiere performance of the live to projection concert for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. The Los Angeles Philharmonic will be performing the entire score from J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Lost, Inside Out, Jurassic World) live-to-picture while the movie is shown in HD on the Bowl’s big screen. On September 2-4, John Williams (Jurassic Park, E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark) will return to the Hollywood Bowl for a concert featuring his music performed by the LA Philharmonic.

Sisters follows two disconnected sisters who are summoned home and throw one final party in order to recapture their glory days. The comedy is being released by Universal Pictures.
