Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the sci-fi sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. The album features the film’s original score composed by Michael Giacchino. The soundtrack will be released physically on May 28, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A digital release is expected the week of the film’s opening in the U.S. Audio clips are available after the jump. Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Weller. The movie follows the Enterprise crew as they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization that has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for. The Paramount Pictures production will be released nationwide on May 17, 2013.

According to the film’s latest poster, Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi adventure sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. The movie’s music is composed by Michael Giacchino who has previously scored the 2009 original film, as well as every other feature directed by J.J. Abrams. Live to Projection Concerts of Michael Giacchino’s ‘Star Trek’ Score Announced
The 21st Century Symphony Orchestra has announced a concert featuring the world premiere performance of Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino‘s original score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek performed live to projection. The orchestra has collaborated with Giacchino and Paramount Pictures to arrange the score from the 2009 hit sci-fi film for a concert version performed live to picture. The music will be performed by the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra and the 21st Century Choir under the baton of Ludwig Wicki. Giacchino is expected to attend the concerts in person. The concerts will be held on three consecutive nights on April 12, 13 and 14, 2013 at the KKL Luzern Concert Hall in Lucerne, Switzerland. The orchestra and Wicki have previously worked together with composer Howard Shore for live to projection concerts of the scores for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which world premiered in Lucerne back in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
‘Person of Interest’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the CBS drama Person of Interest. The album features selections from the score from the show’s first season composed by Ramin Djawadi (Iron Man, Game of Thrones) and performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony. Also included is the series’ main titles theme composed by the show’s executive producer J.J. Abrams. The soundtrack’s release date has been pushed back to November 13, 2012 since our last update. The first season of the Bad Robots production is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD and the show’s second season air every Thursday night on CBS.
Christopher Lennertz to Score Seth Gordon’s ‘Identity Thief’ and Eric Kripke’s & J.J. Abrams’ ‘Revolution’
Christopher Lennertz has signed on to score the upcoming action comedy Identity Thief (aka Identity Theft). The movie is directed by Seth Gordon who previously collaborated with the composer on last summer’s comedy hit Horrible Bosses. Identity Thief stars Melissa McCarthy who steals the identity of a man played by Jason Bateman. Steven Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness, The Weather Man) has written the script and Craig Mazin (The Hangover II) is performing a rewrite. Bateman is also producing the film with Scott Stuber (Safe House, Role Models) and Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon) is executive producing. Universal Pictures has scheduled the comedy for a release on May 10, 2013.
Michael Giacchino’s ‘Super 8’ Soundtrack in Concert
Last weekend, Michael Giacchino conducted a concert on the roof of J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot. The scores performed include the Bad Robots productions Super 8, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Star Trek and the TV show Lost. David Poland from Movie City News has published a video of the performance of the Super 8 suite from the concert and also interviewed the composer about his work on the film. Michael Giacchino to Return for ‘Star Trek’ Sequel
ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michael Giacchino has confirmed that he will be returning to score the upcoming (currently untitled) Star Trek sequel. The assignment was expected as the composer has previously scored all of director J.J. Abrams’ previous movies, including the first Star Trek film in 2009. All primary cast members are expected to return for the sequel, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. Abrams is co-writing the script with Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Transformers). It has also just been announced that the movie will be shot in 3D and has been set for a release on May 17, 2013. Giacchino has been doing a lot of press in the last couple of days about his score for Super 8, which has been released on Blu-Ray and DVD this past Tuesday. Michael Giacchino and Andrea Datzman to Score Fox’s ‘Alcatraz’
According to Music by Michael Giacchino, the composer has recently recorded music for the pilot of the new FOX drama Alcatraz. While Giacchino is scoring the pilot, Andrea Datzman will be writing the music for the rest of the season. Datzman previously co-scored last year’s J.J. Abrams-produced NBC drama Undercovers with Chris Tilton after Giacchino also scored the pilot. Alcatraz is created by Elizabeth Sarnoff (Lost, Deadwood) and stars Sarah Jones as a San Francisco detective involved in a grisly homicide case that takes her to America’s most infamous prison, where her prime suspect becomes an inmate who died more than 30 years before. Jorge Garcia (Lost), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and Robert Forster (Jackie Brown) are co-starring.
Ramin Djawadi to Score ‘Person of Interest’
Ramin Djawadi has signed on to score the new CBS series Person of Interest. The show is created by Christopher Nolan’s brother Jonathan (co-writer of The Dark Knight and The Prestige) and centers on a presumed dead former-CIA agent who teams up with a mysterious billionaire to prevent violent crimes by using their own brand of vigilante justice. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk (Lost) are producing alongside Greg Plageman (Cold Case) and David Semel (Heroes, No Ordinary Family) who also directed the pilot. The drama’s cast includes Michael Emerson (Lost), Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ), Taraji B. Henson (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Kevin Chapman (Brotherhood).
