Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1956 epic The Ten Commandments directed by Cecil B. DeMille and starring Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Edward G. Robinson, Anne Baxter, John Derek and Vincent Price. The 60th Anniversary Soundtrack Collection features the film’s original music composed by Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven, To Kill a Mockingbird, Airplane!, Ghostbusters, Far from Heaven). The box set features the complete score for the first time, as well as 40 minutes of previously unreleased alternates and unused cues.

La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1969 western True Grit directed by Henry Hathaway and starring John Wayne, Kim Darby and Glen Campbell. The album features the score from the Paramount Pictures production composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven, To Kill a Mockingbird). Also included is the Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated main title song performed by Glen Campbell and co-written by Bernstein and Don Black. Bonus tracks include a demo version of the song, as well as three versions of Go Home Girl (one performed by John Hartford and two by Campbell). Concert Line-Up Announced for International Film Music Festival in Cordoba 2013
The full details of three major concerts at this year’s International Film Music Festival in Cordoba have been announced. On June 28, the festival will host its first Elmer Bernstein Award Gala Concert, where Marco Beltrami will be the recipient of the new Elmer Bernstein Award. Peter Bernstein will conduct a tribute to Elmer and there will be a 60 minute concert program devoted to the film music of Beltrami, including performances of such scores as Hellboy, I, Robot, Soul Surfer and the upcoming Snowpiercer. On June 27, another concert entitled The Best of the Best will be held and feature music of Academy Award-winning composers Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and Rachel Portman (Emma), as well as Peter Bernstein (The Ewok Adventure), Alfons Conde (The Abandoned) and Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust). All composers will be attending the event.
James Newton Howard’s ‘Grand Canyon’ Score Released
La-La Land Records has announced an expanded release of the original motion picture score to the 1991 feature film Grand Canyon written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan and starring Kevin Kline, Mary McDonald, Danny Glover and Steve Martin. The album features the movie’s original score composed by James Newton Howard. The special limited edition soundtrack contains more than 25 minutes of score not found on the original soundtrack release. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for John Frankenheimer’s 1964 thriller Seven Days in May written by Rod Serling and starring Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Fredric March and Ava Gardner. The album features the film’s complete score composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. Included on the same CD is the world premiere release of the score for the 1973 thriller The MacKintosh Man directed by John Huston and starring Paul Newman and James Mason. Intrada Records has announced the world premiere release of the soundtrack for the 1973 western Cahill United States Marshal directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring John Wayne, George Kennedy and Gary Grimes. The music is composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. The album features the complete score from the film, including an unused cue for the ending, as well as the song A Man Gets to Thinkin’ performed by Charlie Rich, written by Bernstein with lyrics by Don Black. Remastered ‘Chinatown’ Soundtrack Announced
Varese Sarabande Records has announced the latest batch of titles in the Varese CD Club series. Most notably, the label will be relasing a remastered soundtrack edition for Roman Polanski’s classic 1974 thriller Chinatown starring Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway. The album features the Academy Award-nominated score composed by Jerry Goldsmith. The release is limited to 3000 copies and is available for pre-order on Varese’s website, where you can also check out a number of audio clips. The previous soundtrack CD has been out-of-print for more than a decade. The release coincides with the Blu-Ray debut of the film. Apart from the score nomination, Chinatown has also received 10 other Oscar nods, including in the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor/Actress categories.
