A soundtrack album for the Australian drama Healing has been announced. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Shine, The Railway Man, Legend of the Guardians). The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 7, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips below. Healing is directed by Craig Monahan and stars Hugo Weaving, Xavier Samuel, Don Hany, Xavier Samuel, Anthony Hayes, Jane Menelaus, Mark Leonard Winter, Robert Taylor and Justine Clarke. The movie chronicles a prison inmate’s last 18 months before release after serving a 16-year term as he is sent to a prison farm, where a senior officer has established a unique program to rehabilitate broken men. The drama was released in Australia earlier this month.

‘John Doe: Vigilante’ Soundtrack Released
A soundtrack album has been released for the Australian thriller John Doe: Vigilante. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Shine, Australia). The soundtrack is now available digitally on Amazon. Audio clips are embedded after the jump. John Doe: Vigilante is directed by Kelly Dolen and stars Jamie Bamber, Lachy Hulme, Gary Abrahams, Sam Parsonson, Brendan Clearkin and Brooke Ryan. The movie follows an ordinary man who decides to take the law into his own hands and begins exacting justice the only way he knows how – by killing one criminal at a time. The thriller opened in select theaters this past March.
‘The Railway Man’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the drama The Railway Man. The album features the film’s original music written by Academy Award-nominated composer David Hirschfelder (Elizabeth, Australia, Legend of the Guardians). The soundtrack will be released physically on May 27, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Railway Man is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky and stars Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgård and Hiroyuki Sanada. The movie follows a British Army officer who is tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labour camp during World War II and discovers decades later that the Japanese interpreter he holds responsible for much of his treatment is still alive. The drama was released earlier this month by the Weinstein Company and is now playing in select theaters.

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the animated sequel Rio 2 directed by Carlinhos Brown and featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, will.i.am, Jemaine Clement, Rodrigo Santoro, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, Jamie Foxx, Rita Moreno, Bruno Mars and Kristin Chenoweth. The film’s original’s music is composed by John Powell (How to Train Your Dragon) and Sergio Mendes serves as the film’s executive music producer. Also opening wide is the sports drama Draft Day directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, Denis Leary, Frank Langella, Sam Elliot, Sean Combs, Terry Crews, Ellen Burstyn and Chadwick Boseman. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. David Hirschfelder Scoring ‘Healing’
David Hirschfelder has composed the music for the upcoming Australian drama Healing. The film is directed by Craig Monahan and stars Hugo Weaving, Xavier Samuel, Don Hany, Xavier Samuel, Jane Menelaus, Anthony Hayes, Mark Leonard Winter, Robert Taylor and Justine Clarke. The movie tells the story of a real-life prison inmate’s last 18 months before release after serving a 16-year term as he is sent to a low-security, pre-release prison farm, where a senior officer has established a unique program to rehabilitate broken men. Monahan has co-written the screenplay with Alison Niselle and is also co-producing the project with Tait Brady (The 25th Reich). Hirschfelder has previously scored Monahan’s two last features The Interview and Peaches, both of which also starred Weaving in the leading role.
David Hirschfelder Scoring ‘Walking with Dinosaurs 3D’
David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming family action adventure Walking with Dinosaurs 3D. The film is directed by Neil Nightingale & Barry Cook (Mulan, Arthur Christmas) and follows two brothers looking to follow in their father’s footsteps, which leads them to a showdown with dinosaurs in the Arctic. Charlie Rowe has been cast in one of the leading roles. John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Happy Feet) and Theodore Thomas wrote the screenplay and Mike Devlin, Amanda Hill and Deepak Nayar (Bend It Like Beckham, Lost Highway) are producing the BBC Earth, Evergreen Films and Reliance Big Entertainment production.
David Hirschfelder Scoring ‘The Railway Man’
David Hirschfelder is composing the score for the upcoming drama The Railway Man. The movie is directed by Jonathan Teplitzy (Burning Man) and stars Colin Firth as Eric Lomax, a British officer who was captured and tortured by the Japanese in World War II and is persuaded by his wife to seek out and confront one of his captors a few decades later. Nicole Kidman, Jeremy Irvine, Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada are co-starring. Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions, Hilary & Jackie) and Andy Paterson (producer of Girl with a Pearl Earring) have written the screenplay based on Lomax’s autobiography. Paterson is also producing the Australian and British co-production with Chris Brown (The Proposition, Daybreakers) and Bill Curbishley.

Two new movies open in wide release this weekend.
The Roommate starring Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly features a score by John Frizzell. As reported earlier this week, Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album including Frizzell’s score.
The James Cameron-produced thriller Sanctum starring Ioann Gruffud, Richard Roxburgh and Alice Parkinson features music by David Hirschfelder. A soundtrack album has been released on Varese Sarabande Records as announced here.
‘Sanctum’ soundtrack album announced
Varese Sarabande Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming 3D thriller Sanctum produced by James Cameron. The album will contain 18 tracks from David Hirschfelder’s score including a 6 minute suite. Check out our previous article on Hirschfelder’s assignment. The soundtrack will be released on February 1, 2011, three days before the domestic release of the movie.
David Hirschfelder scoring James Cameron’s Sanctum
David Hirschfelder is attached to score the upcoming action adventure Sanctum. The movie is produced by James Cameron and will be one of the first 3D movies that was shot in 3D and not going through a post-production conversion. In the movie, an underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world. The movie stars Ioann Gruffud, Richard Roxburgh and Alice Parkinson. Sanctum marks another big assignment for Hirschfelder, who scored Zack Snyder’s Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole earlier this year.
