Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced today that composer Alan Silvestri will be honored with the companys Icon Award at the 2017 Film, TV & Visual Media Awards. The annual ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 10, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills and will be hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President Film, TV & Visual Media Relations Doreen Ringer-Ross. BMI will bestow the Icon Award to Silvestri for his impactful contribution in the realm of film and television music. Throughout his career, the composer has scored over a hundred titles and earned two Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, two Emmy Awards and three GRAMMY awards.

BMI to Present 19th Annual Composer/Director Roundtable at 2017 Sundance Film Festival
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) and Sundance Institute have announced the line-up for the 19th annual Composer/Director Roundtable and 15th annual Snowball during the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. BMI’s roundtable entitled Music & Film: The Creative Process will take place on Tuesday, January 24, at Festival Base Camp, presented by Canada Goose (475 Swede Alley, Park City, Utah), from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The conversation will be moderated by Doreen Ringer-Ross, BMI’s Vice President of Film,TV & Visual Media Relations and focus on the relationship between composer and director.
BMI Continues to Support Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) will continue its support for Sundance Institute’s Film Music Program, which collaborates with Skywalker Sound to host the Sundance Institute Music and Sound Design Labs at Skywalker Sound. The first 2016 session of the lab begins July 7 at Skywalker Ranch and provides an opportunity for composers and directors to explore the collaborative process of writing music for feature film and is a joint venture of the Institute’s Film Music Program and Feature Film Program. The second session of the Lab begins on July 22 and will focus on composing for documentaries and is a joint venture of the Film Music Program and Documentary Film Program. The program aims to give composers first-hand experience working on film music and sound design, and to give directors insight into the process as well.

Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. James Newton Howard was honored with the organization’s Icon Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer whose credits include such hit films as The Hunger Games series, The Fugitive, Pretty Woman, Maleficent, Blood Diamond, The Dark Knight, Space Jam and My Best Friend’s Wedding was presented the award by the evening’s host, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross and BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill.

Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced today that James Newton Howard will be honored with the organization’s Icon Award for outstanding career achievement at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The composer whose best known scoring credits include The Sixth Sense, The Hunger Games series, King Kong, Signs, Maleficent and The Dark Knight has received eight Academy Award nominations throughout his career for works including Defiance, The Village, The Fugitive, Michael Clayton, The Prince of Tides and My Best Friend’s Wedding. He also was honored with four Golden Globe and three Grammy nominations and won a Grammy for his music for The Dark Knight, which he co-wrote with Hans Zimmer.

Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Alexandre Desplat was honored with the Icon Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer who received his first Academy Award earlier this year for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel and whose other scoring credits include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Godzilla, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, Zero Dark Thirty and The Tree of Life was presented the award by the night’s hosts, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross and BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill. Several of Desplat’s regular collaborators congratulated him via a tribute video, including Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen, Tamara Drewe), Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech), Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game) and Wes Anderson (Moonrise Kingdom, The Fantastic Mr. Fox).

BMI’s roundtable entitled Music & Film: The Creative Process will take place on Tuesday, January 27 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Filmmaker Lodge (550 Main Street, 2nd Floor Park City, Utah 84060). The conversation will be moderated by Doreen Ringer Ross, Vice President, Film/TV Relations and focus on the relationship between composer and director. The participants will discuss what goes into creating a successful film score, the ingredients of an effective composer/director relationship, the Sundance Film Festival experience and more.
BMI to Present Film Music Panel at ‘Don’t Knock the Rock’ 2014
This Saturday, BMI will present its annual roundtable chat as part of the Don’t Knock The Rock music documentary festival. Participants include director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now, Smashed), Allison Anders (Grace In My Heart, Sugartown), music supervisors Tiffany Andrews (Like Crazy, Smashed) and Danny Bramson (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire), composer Miriam Cutler (American Promise, King’s Point), BMI Film/TV Department Vice President Doreen Ringer Ross and director Denny Tedesco (The Wrecking Crew). The panelists will discuss the changing landscape for music rights and new media.
