Amie Doherty (Undone, Battle at Big Rock, The High Note, Here and Now) has signed on to score DreamWorks Animation’s upcoming feature Spirit Riding Free. The film directed by Elaine Bogan (Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters & 3Below) is based on DreamWorks Animation Television’s Netflix original series of the same title, which was itself inspired by the 2002 feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (scored by Hans Zimmer and featuring songs by Bryan Adams). The movie follows Lucky Prescott as she is forced to move from her big city home to a small frontier town, where she becomes a complete fish-out-of-water, makes new friends and forms an inseparable bond with a wild mustang named Spirit.

Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the musical comedy drama The High Note directed by Nisha Ganatra and stars Dakota Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kelvin Harrison Jr, Ross, Harrison Jr., Ice Cube, Zoe Chao, Eddie Izzard, Bill Pullman and Diplo. The film’s original score is composed by Amie Doherty (Undone, Battle at Big Rock, Here and Now, Marooned). Republic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie performed by Ross & Harrison Jr., as well as Donny Hathaway, Maxine Brown, Aretha Franklin and Anthony Ramos. Also opening in select drive-in theaters and on Amazon Prime today is the sci-fi drama The Vast of Night directed by Andrew Patterson and starring Sierra McCormick and Jake Horowitz. Jared Bulmer and Erick Alexander have composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie is set in the 1950s in New Mexico, and follows a young switchboard operator and a charismatic radio DJ as they discover a strange audio frequency that could change their small town and the future forever. The drama premiered at last year’s Slamdance Film Festival and was picked up by Amazon Studios.

The film is directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, Cake) and stars Dakota Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ice Cube, Zoe Chao, Eddie Izzard, Bill Pullman and Diplo. The movie is set in the dazzling world of the LA music scene and follows a superstar singer and her overworked personal assistant as they are presented with a choice that could alter the course of their respective careers. Flora Greeson wrote the screenplay. Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner (Atonement, Baby Driver, Love Actually, Rush) are producing the project for Working Title Films.
Soundtrack for DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Marooned’ to Be Released
Back Lot Music will release a soundtrack EP for the new DreamWorks Animation short Marooned. The track EP features the film’s original music composed by Amie Doherty (Undone, Battle at Big Rock, Here and Now). The soundtrack will be released this Friday, September 27 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Marooned is directed by Andrew Erekson, produced by Jeff Hermann and tells the story of a robot named C-0R13 who – stranded on an abandoned lunar outpost – longs to return to Earth and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.
Soundtrack Album for Amazon’s ‘Undone’ to Be Released
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Amazon original series Undone. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Amie Doherty (Here and Now, Marooned). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 13 and will be available to stream and download on Amazon Music. Undone is created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg & Kate Purdy and features the voice talent of Rosa Salazar, Bob Odenkirk, Angelique Cabral, Constance Marie, Siddharth Dhananjay and Daveed Diggs. The animated series centers on a woman who discovers she has a new relationship with time after surviving a car accident that almost killed her.

Premiering on Thursday, September 12, is the Netflix limited series The I-Land created by Neil LaBute and starring Kate Bosworth, Alex Pettyfer, Natalie Martinez, Kyle Schmid, Gilles Geary and Ronald Peet. The show’s original music is composed by Emily Rice. The sci-fi thriller, which follows a group of strangers who fight to survive harsh realities – and the island that traps them stream, will be available to stream on Thursday exclusively on Netflix.
Premiering on Friday, September 13, is the Netflix original series Unbelievable developed by Susannah Grant, Michael Chabon & Ayelet Waldman and starring Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever. Will Bates (I Origins, The Path, Another Earth, The Looming Tower) is composing the show’s original music.
