Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for the 1980 zombie horror cult classic Hell of the Living Dead (Virus) directed by Bruno Mattei and starring Margit Evelyn Newton, Frank Garfield and Selan Karay. The album features the original score from the film composed by Gianni Dell’Orso (John the Bastard). Also included are several Goblin tracks (from Zombi and Contamination), as well as Luis Bacalov’s theme from Fernando Di Leo’s Diamanti Sporchi Di Sangue as used in the movie. Hans Zimmer was honored with the Critics Choice Award in the Best Score category for his music for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune at tonight’s 27th Critics Choice Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. He previously won the award back in 2001 for his scores for Gladiator, Mission: Impossible 2 and The Road to El Dorado and was nominated multiple other times. The other composers nominated in the category were Nicholas Britell for Don’t Look Up, Jonny Greenwood for The Power of the Dog and Spencer and Nathan Johnson for Nightmare Alley. Premiering on Tuesday, March 15, is the HBO documentary Phoenix Rising directed by Amy Berg about actress Evan Rachel Wood’s recent efforts as an activist pushing for an extension of the statute of limitations for domestic violence cases and the coalition she builds at The Phoenix Act. The film’s original music is composed by Aska Matsumiya (Bruised, Betty, I’m Your Woman, Skate Kitchen, Selah and the Spades). Hans Zimmer Wins BAFTA Award for ‘Dune’ Score

Hans Zimmer has received his first BAFTA Award for his music for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune in the Original Score category at today’s 2022 EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony in London. He has previously been nominated numerous times for such films as The Lion King, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, The Dark Knight,Inception, 12 Years a Slave, Interstellar, Dunkirk and Blade Runner 2049. The composer is also nominated for an Academy Award for his Dune score. The other composers nominated in the category were Daniel Pemberton (Being the Ricardos), Nicholas Britell (Don’t Look Up), Alexandre Desplat (The French Dispatch) and Jonny Greenwood (The Power of the Dog).

Lin-Manuel Miranda & Germaine Franco were honored with the Annie Award in the Best Music – Feature category for their music from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Encanto at tonight’s (virtual) 49th Annie Awards ceremony. The other contenders in the category were Dan Romer for Luca, Youki Kojima & Yuta Bandoh for Poupelle of Chimney Town, James Newton Howard & Jhené Aiko for Raya and the Last Dragon and Alex Lacamoire (& Miranda) for Vivo. Franco has previously received an Annie Award as part of the music team of Pixar’s 2017 feature Coco.
