Theodore Shapiro to score Dinner for Schmucks

Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy Dinner for Schmucks. In the movie, a rising executive succeeds in finding the perfect guest, an IRS employee, for his boss’s monthly event, a so-called “dinner for idiots,” which offers certain advantages to the exec who shows up with the biggest buffoon. The movie stars Steve Carell and Paul Rudd and is directed by Jay Roach (Austin Powers series, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers). Paramount Pictures will release the Dinner for Schmucks on July 23. Avatar – Soundtrack Deluxe Edition coming

Atlantic Records announced that an expanded release of James Horner’s score for Avatar will be released on April 20. The Avatar – Deluxe Edition will be a download-only release and include six bonus tracks of unreleased music in addition to the previous album tracks. Graeme Revell to take over Unthinkable

Film Music reporter has learned that Graeme Revell has replaced Christopher Young as the composer on the upcoming psychological thriller Unthinkable. The movie centers around a black-ops interrogator and an FBI agent who press a suspect terrorist into divulging the location of three nuclear weapons sets to detonate in the U.S. The movie is directed who collaborated with Young on his last movie The Informers. Unthinkable stars Samuel L. Jackson, Martin Sheen, Brandon Routh and Carrie-Anne Moss. While a release in several international territories is set, the film has yet to be picked up for domestic distribution. To watch the trailer of the movie, check out this page.
Valentine’s Day score released

WaterTower Music recently released John Debney’s score for the Garry Marshall-directed romantic comedy Valentine’s Day. The album features more than 35 minutes of Debney’s score from the movie, as well as the song Every Time You Smiled co-written by John Debney and Glen Ballard and performed by Carina Round. Tomandandy to score Resident Evil: Afterlife

The composer duo tomandandy has been chosen to provide the score for the upcoming sequel Resident Evil: Afterlife. The movie marks director Paul W.S. Anderson’s return to the directing chair to the franchise after he only wrote and produced the last two parts in the series. His original Resident Evil movie featured a score by Marco Beltrami and Marilyn Manson. The sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse was scored by Jeff Danna, while Resident Evil: Extinction received a score by Charlie Clouser. The fourth part of the series is the first entry for tomandandy and stars once again Milla Jovovich, as well as Wentworth Miller and Ali Larter. Screen Gems is planning to release the movie on September 10. For the first time in the series, the movie will be released in 3D. Read the rest of this entry »
Nightmare on Elm Street Soundtrack details

WaterTower Music will release Steve Jablonsky’s score for the horror remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The album will be released on April 27. The movie is a re-imagining of the horror icon Freddy Krueger, a serial-killer who wields a glove with four blades embedded in the fingers and kills people in their dreams, resulting in their real death in reality. The movie directed by Samuel Bayer and produced by Michael Bay stars Jackie Earle Haley and will be released in theaters on April 30.

Ramin Djawadi on Clash of the Titans

ASCAP recently uploaded a new interview with composer Ramin Djawadi, who just finished working on Clash of the Titans which premieres in theaters this weekend. In the interview, Djawadi talks about his collaboration with director Louis Leterrier, the scoring process on the movie, working with composer/producer Neil Davidge from Massive Attack, his general approach to scoring movies and his work on the TV show Flash Forward, which he is currently scoring. New Badelt scores available

Two new scores by composer Klaus Badelt have just been made available. Die Jagd nach der heiligen Lanze (The Lance) is a German TV fantasy adventure which just premiered on German TV earlier this week. Carter Burwell to score The Kids Are All Right

Film Music Reporter has learned that Carter Burwell has been hired to score the comedy The Kids Are All Right. The movie had its premiere at this year’s Sundance film festival. The movie originally had a score by Nathan Larson and Craig Wedren and Burwell has stepped in to provide a score for the nationwide release in July by Focus Features. No word yet if any of Larson’s and Wedren’s score will stay in the picture. The movie centers around two children conceived by artificial insemination who bring their birth father into their family life. The movie directed by Lisa Cholodenko (Laurel Canyon) stars Julianne Moore, Anette Bening, Mark Ruffalo and Mia Wasikowska. Read the rest of this entry »
