Varese Sarabande has announced the details for the soundtrack album of the Ralph Fiennes-directed drama Coriolanus. The 2-CD release features the film’s original score composed by Ilan Eshkeri (Stardust, Layer Cake) on one disc and will be mixed with dialogue highlights from Shakespeare’s play on the second. The soundtrack will be released on May 1, 2012 and can be pre-ordered on Amazon. Audio clips from the score will be added to this page in a couple of weeks. Atticus Ross to Score ’47 Ronin’

Atticus Ross has been hired to score Universal’s upcoming epic 3D martial arts fantasy adventure 47 Ronin. The film marks the feature directorial debut of commercial/music video director Carl Erik Rinsch and stars Keanu Reeves, as well as Japanese actors Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Rinko Kikuchi, and Kou Shibasaki. The movie tells the fact-based story of the 47 Ronin, a band of samurai swordsmen who avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan. Chris Morgan (Wanted, Fast Five) and Hossein Amini (Drive) have written the screenplay and Scott Stuber (Battleship, Role Models), Eric McLeod (Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Tropic Thunder) and Pamela Abdy (Garden State) are producing the film. Cutting Edge Group’s Pale Blue label has released a soundtrack album for the thriller Texas Killing Fields. The album features the original score from the film written by composer Dickon Hinchliffe (Winter’s Bone, Last Chance Harvey), as well three songs performed by The Americans. Texas Killing Fields directed by Ami Canaan Mann and starring Sam Worthington, Chloe Moretz and Jeffrey Dean Morgan centers on a series of unsolved murders in the industrial wastelands surrounding Gulf Coast refineries. Adam Peters is scoring the upcoming crime drama Savages. The film is directed by Oliver Stone and stars Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, Joel David Moore, Emile Hirsch, Demian Bichir and John Travolta. The film is based on the bestselling novel by Don Winslow and follows two pot growers whose shared girlfriend is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel. Winslow has written the screenplay with Stone and Shane Salerno (Shaft, Armageddon). Moritz Borman (Terminator Salvation, Alexander) and Eric Kopeloff (W., Stay) are producing the film. Peters has previously collaborated with Stone on the 2009 documentary South of the Border. The director’s other previous musical collaborators include Craig Armstrong (World Trade Center, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), John Williams (JFK, Born on the Fourth of July), Vangelis (Alexander), Ennio Morricone (U-Turn) and James Horner (The Hand). ‘Prometheus’ to Feature Music by Harry Gregson-Williams

Harry Gregson-Williams has revealed on his official Facebook fan page that is currently working on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi film Prometheus. According to the composer, he will be “supplementing the score” by Marc Streitenfeld who is the film’s primary composer. Gregson-Williams previously collaborated with Scott on 2005’s historical epic Kingdom of Heaven. Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Ben Foster follows a team of explorers who discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth. The details of the score album release for the upcoming comic book adaptation The Avengers have been revealed. The album features the original score by composer Alan Silvestri. The album will be released digitally overseas on April 20, 2012 and in the US on May 1, where it will be available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks on the album can be checked out below. Hollywood Records has previously announced a separate soundtrack featuring songs from and inspired of the movie, including an end credits song by Soundgarden (click here for more information). Ennio Morricone to Score Giuseppe Tornatore’s ‘The Best Offer’

Ennio Morricone is attached to write the score for the upcoming drama The Best Offer. Geoffrey Rush and Jim Sturgess are set to star in the film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore. The movie revolves around a loveless elderly man who intersects with an astute young man and a mysterious woman in a South Tyrol setting. Rome’s Paco Cinematografica is producing the drama, which is set to start shooting at the end of this month. Morricone has been collaborating regularly with the director since the 1988 Academy Award-winning film Cinema Paradiso, including The Legend of 1900 and Maleno, both of which earned the composer a Golden Globe nomination. No domestic distribution for The Best Offer has been announced yet. (Variety)

GNP Crescendo Records has announced a new soundtrack edition for the 1996 sci-fi film Star Trek: First Contact. The album features the complete score from the film composed by Jerry Goldsmith (with additional music by Joel Goldsmith), including almost 35 minutes of previously unreleased music. Lucas Vidal Recording the Score for ‘The Cold Light of Day’

Last summer, Lucas Vidal recorded his music for the upcoming action thriller The Cold Light of Day starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver. The score was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London with an 80-piece orchestra. Film Music Reporter presents an exclusive video from the orchestral recording sessions, which can be checked out after the jump. The video also features interviews with the rising composer himself, as well as engineer/mixer Peter Cobin and music editor Ellen Segal. More videos are to follow.
