One movie is opening in wide release this weekend:

Expected to beat box office opening weekend records for the month of December is the fantasy movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey directed by Peter Jackson and starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Graham McTavish, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving, James Nesbitt, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm and Elijah Wood. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Howard Shore who has previously scored The Lord of the Rings trilogy. WaterTower Music has released two soundtrack albums featuring the composer’s score, including a standard and deluxe edition. Also featured on both albums is the original song Song of the Lonely Mountain written and performed by Neil Finn. Opening in limited release is the indie drama Any Day Now directed by Travis Fine and starring Alan Cumming, Garret Dillahunt, Isaac Leyva, Frances Fisher and Chris Mulkey. The film’s original score is composed by Joey Newman (The Middle). Lakeshore Records has released two different soundtracks, including an album featuring the songs from the film by such artists as France Joli, Betty Padgett, The Honey Cone, Teddy Rabb, Marty Balin, Thelma Houston, Rufus Wainwright. Also opening in limited release is the indie romantic comedy Save the Date directed by Michael Mohan and staring Lizzy Caplan, Alison Brie, Mark Webber, Geoffrey Arend, Martin Starr, Melonie Diaz and Timothy Busfield. The film’s score composed by Hrishikesh Hirway. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring songs by artists including Wilco, Daniel Hart, Giorgio Moroder, Wolfbird, Houses, Nick Waterhouse, Arum Rae, Class Actress, The One AM Radio, as well as one track from Hirway’s score. Opening in several cities across the country following its release in New York last week is the indie comedy drama The Fitzgerald Family Christmas written and directed by Edward Burns who also stars in the film alongside Connie Britton, Noah Emmerich, Kerry Bishé, Heather Burns, Dara Coleman, Brian D’Arcy James, Marsha Dietlein Bennett, Caitlin Fitzgerald and Anita Gillette. P.T. Walkley (Newlyweds, The Groomsmen) has composed the film’s score. A soundtrack album featuring the score is available on the Bathing Suit Music label.
