Relativity Music Group will release the official soundtrack album for DreamWorks Animation’s Mr. Peabody & Sherman. The album features the film’s original score composed by Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Also included is John Lennon’s classic song Beautiful Boy and the original song Way Back When by Grizfolk. The soundtrack will be released on March 4, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Mr. Peabody & Sherman is directed by Rob Minkoff and features the voices of Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Leslie Mann, Stanley Tucci, Allison Janney, Ariel Winter, Stephen Colbert, Patrick Warburton, Mel Brooks, Lake Bell, Zach Callison and Dennis Haysbert. Academy’s Statement Regarding ‘Alone Yet Not Alone’ Song Decision

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has issued a statement regarding the decision to rescind the nomination for the song Alone Yet Not Alone from the movie of the same title:
The Board of Governors’ decision to rescind the Original Song nomination for “Alone Yet Not Alone,” music by Bruce Broughton, was made thoughtfully and after careful consideration. The Academy takes very seriously anything that undermines the integrity of the Oscars® voting process. The Board regretfully concluded that Mr. Broughton’s actions did precisely that. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the romantic comedy That Awkward Moment written and directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots, Mackenzie Davis and Jessica Lucas. David Torn (Lars and the Real Girl, The Wackness) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Crozet, Night Drive, Black Apples, Strange Talk and Lavender Diamond. Also opening wide following an Academy Awards-qualifying limited run in December is the drama Labor Day directed by Jason Reitman and starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith, Clark Gregg and Tobey Maguire. Rolfe Kent (Sideways, Mean Girls, Election) who previously scored the Reitman’s features Thank You for Smoking, Up in the Air and Young Adult has composed the film’s original music. Warner Bros. Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs featured in the drama. Paul Haslinger to Score AMC’s ‘Halt and Catch Fire’

Paul Haslinger has revealed in a recent interview with 8Dio.com that he is scoring the upcoming AMC original series Halt and Catch Fire. The drama is created by Chris Cantwell & Chris Rogers and stars Lee Pace, Scoot McNairy, Mackenzie Davis, Kerry Bishé, Toby Huss and David Wilson Barnes. The show is set in the in the early 1980s during the rise of the PC era and follows an unlikely trio — a visionary, an engineer and a prodigy — who take personal and professional risks in the race to build a computer that will change the world as they know it. Jonathan Lisco (Southland), Gran Via Productions’s Mark Johnson (Breaking Bad, Rain Man, The Chronicles of Narnia) and Melissa Bernstein (Breaking Bad, Rectify) are executive producing the project. ‘About Last Night’ Soundtrack Announced

Columbia Records has announced a soundtrack album for the romantic comedy About Last Night. The album features the songs from the film by such artists as James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Brand New Heavies, Bobby Caldwell, Pink Martini and Y’akoto. Also included are two previously unreleased songs: A Million by John Legend and Luckiest Man by Mishon featuring Problem. ‘Back to the Future’ Musical Update

In 2012, we reported that composer Alan Silvestri was in talks to transfer his music for Robert Zemeckis’ classic Back to the Future into a Broadway stage musical. Today, it was announced that the musical is headed for the London stage and is scheduled to open in the movie’s 30th anniversary in 2015. Silvestri is writing new original songs for the production with Glen Ballard. They previously collaborated on songs for the features The Polar Express, Beowulf and last year’s The Croods. The musical will also feature additional music from the film by Huey Lewis & The News and will incorporate Silvestri’s score from the movie. The stage production’s book is written by Zemeckis, Bob Gale and Jamie Lloyd who will also be directing the Amblin Entertainment, Colin Ingram, Universal Stage Productions, Donovan Mannato and CJ E&M production. ‘A Perfect Man’ Soundtrack Released

Double Eagle Records has released a soundtrack album for the indie comedy drama A Perfect Man. The album features the film’s original music composed by Jeff Cardoni (CSI: Miami, Just Friends). A Perfect Man is directed by Kees Van Oostrum and stars Liev Schreiber, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Joelle Carter, Renee Soutendijk, Huub Stapel, Kevin Rooney and Louise Fletcher. The movie is set in Amsterdam and follows a philandering man and his attempts to understand women through phone conversations a with a woman named Nina. Milan Records will release a soundtrack album for Denis Villeneuve’s indie thriller Enemy. The album features the film’s original music composed by Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Martha Marcy May Marlene). The soundtrack will be released on March 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Enemy directed by Villeneuve (Prisoners) is based on Jose Saramago’s novel The Double and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a history professor who spots his double in a bit role in a movie and decides to track him down – leading to their lives becoming irrevocably intertwined. Melanie Laurent and Sarah Gadon are co-starring. The movie premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival and was picked up by A24 Films for a domestic release on March 14. Fil Eisler to Score ‘Kitchen Sink’

Fil Eisler (aka iZler) has signed on to score the upcoming horror comedy Kitchen Sink. The movie is directed by Robbie Pickering and stars Vanessa Hudgens, Mackenzie Davis, Nicholas Braun, Ed Westwick, Josh Fadem, Joan Cusack, Keegan-Michael Key, Denis Leary, Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk and Ian Roberts. The film follows a pair of teen who form an unlikely alliance with vampires and zombies in order to take on an alien arm. La-La Land Records has announced a 4-CD soundtrack set for the Warner Bros. Television animated show Superman: The Animated Series. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Kristopher Carter, Harvey R. Cohen, Michael McCuistion and Lolita Ritmanis, as well as Shirley Walker who composed the series’ main titles theme. The 4-CD set is limited to 3000 copies and is now available to order on the label’s official website, where you can also check out the full album details and listen to audio clips.
