Steve Jablonsky and Nathan Whitehead have signed on to compose the music for the upcoming TNT original series The Last Ship. Jablonsky is composing the main themes and Whitehead is providing the score for the show created by Hank Steinberg (Without a Trace) and Steven Kane (The Closer) and starring Eric Dane, Rhona Mitra, Adam Baldwin and Tracy Middendorf. The drama opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population and follows the crew of a lone naval destroyer who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Republic Records will release the official soundtrack album for Ben Stiller’s fantasy comedy drama The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The album features the songs from the film, including the original song Stay Out performed by Jose Gonzalez and written by the film’s composer Theodore Shapiro and Craig Wedren (click here for more information about the song). Also included are other songs from and inspired by the movie by artists including Junip, Of Monsters and Men, Rogue Wave, David Bowie, Jack Johnson, Grace Mitchell and Rogue Valley. The soundtrack will be released on December 17, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Expanded ‘Lolita’ Score by Ennio Morricone to Be Released

Music Box Records has announced a new soundtrack album for Adrianne Lyne’s 1997 film adaptation of Vladmir Nabokov’s novel Lolita starring Jeremy Irons Dominique Swain, Melanie Griffith and Frank Langella. The album features the film’s original music composed, orchestrated and conducted by Academy Award winner Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Mission, Once Upon a Time in America), including 35 minutes of previously unreleased material. Mac Quayle to Score ‘L.A. Slasher’

Mac Quayle has been hired to score the upcoming horror comedy L.A. Slasher. The film is written and directed by Martin Owen and stars Mischa Barton, Eric Roberts, Dave Bautista, Danny Trejo, Drake Bell and Brooke Hogan. The movie is a satirical take on the horror genre set against the celebrity obsessed world of modern day Los Angeles. Daniel Sollinger is producing the project.
Quayle has previously scored the Netflix series Bad Samaritans and co-composed the music for the drama A Belfast Story starring Colm Meaney with Nick Glennie-Smith. ‘La Marche’ Soundtrack Details

Hamburger Records will release a soundtrack album for the French comedy La Marche. The album features the film’s original score written by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love, Quills). Also included are the songs from the film by such artists as The Mamas & The Papas, Punkin Machine, Suicide and Charles Trenet. Hans Zimmer to Produce Junkie XL’s ‘Divergent’ Score

Following our news article from earlier this week, it was revealed today that Hans Zimmer will serve as the executive score producer on the sci-fi adventure film Divergent. Junkie XL (aka Tom Holkenberg) is composing the score for the film based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling novel, directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Aaron Eckhart, Miles Teller, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort, Jai Courtney, Ashley Judd and Maggie Q. The composer whose other previous and upcoming scoring credits include 300: Rise of an Empire, Mad Max: Fury Road, Paranoia has previously collaborated with Zimmer numerous times, providing additional music for such film as Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Rises, Madagascar series, Shark Tale and Megamind. The Crystal Method are composing the score for the new Fox series Almost Human. The show is created by J.H. John Tavener (1944 – 2013)

John Tavener has passed away at age 69. The British composer was best known for his concert work, but also worked on a couple of major films, most notably Alfonso Cuaron’s 2006 movie Children of Men. Tavener also composed the music for the international co-production Battle in Heaven directed by Carlos Reygadas and Werner Herzog’s documentary short Pilgrimage. The composer’s concert music was also used in a number of films, including Terence Malick’s The Tree of Life. He received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 2000 for services to music.Tavener died at his home in Child Okeford, Southern England. Read the rest of this entry »
