supergirlPremiering tomorrow, October 26, is the CBS drama Supergirl based on the DC Comics property, developed by Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler & Sarah Schechter and starring Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, David Harewood and Chyler Leigh. The show’s original music is composed by Blake Neely (The Flash, Arrow, Blindspot, No Ordinary Family, The Mentalist, Life As We Know It). wicked-cityPremiering on Tuesday, October 27, is the new ABC drama Wicked City created by Steven Baigelman and starring Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Jeremy Sisto, Taissa Farmiga, Gabriel Luna, Anne Winters, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross and Jaime Ray Newman. BT (The Fast and the Furious, Monster, Driven, Go, Catch and Release) and Mike DiMattia (Betrayal) are composing the show’s original music. maurizio-malagniniThis week, Maurizio Malagnini has recorded his score for the upcoming ITV movie Peter & Wendy. The film stars Zac Sutcliffe and Hazel Doupe in the title roles, alongside Stanley Tucci as Captain Hook, Laura Fraser as Mrs. Darling and Paloma Faith as Tinker Bell. The Headline Pictures production is based on J.M. Barrie’s classic novel Peter Pan and is directed by Diarmuid Lawrence (Little Dorrit). Adrian Hodges (My Week with Marilyn, Primeval, The Musketeers) has written the screenplay and Christian Baute and Stewart Mackinnon (Quartet, The Invisible Woman) are producing the project. Michael Giacchino Named Film Composer of the Year at World Soundtrack Awards

michael-giacchinoMichael Giacchino has been named Film Composer of the Year 2015 at the 15th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 42nd Ghent Film Festival. The composer’s output over the last year includes such titles as Inside Out, Tomorrowland, Jupiter Ascending and this year’s highest grossing film, Jurassic World. Giacchino previously received a World Soundtrack Award in the Discovery of a Year category back in 2006. In the Best Original Film Score of the Year category, Antonio Sanchez was honored for his score to this year’s Best Picture winner at the Academy Awards, Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). In addition to the nationwide expansion of Steve Jobs, four new movies are opening wide this weekend:

last-witch-hunterOpening in most theaters is the fantasy adventure The Last Witch Hunter directed by Breck Eisner and starring Vin Diesel, Elijah Wood, Rose Leslie, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Julie Engelbrecht and Michael Caine. The film’s original music is composed by Steve Jablonsky (Transformers, Ender’s Game, The Island, Desperate Housewives). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. rock-the-kasbahAlso opening wide is the comedy Rock the Kasbah directed by Barry Levinson and starring Bill Murray, Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Danny McBride, Scott Caan, Bruce Willis and Leem Lubany. Marcelo Zarvos (The Affair, The Good Shepherd, Enough Said, What Just Happened) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring two tracks from the composer’s music, as well as the songs from the film by artists including Bob Dylan, Isa Machine & LP and Harry Nilsson. ‘Crimson Peak’ Soundtrack Details

crimson-peakQuartet Records has released a soundtrack album for Guillermo del Toro’s gothic romance Crimson Peak. The album features the film’s original music composed by Fernando Velazquez (Mama, The Orphanage, The Impossible, Devil, Hercules). The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. A CD version is set to be released next month. Crimson Peak is co-written and directed by del Toro and stars Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam and Jim Beaver. The movie is set in the aftermath of a family tragedy and follows an aspiring author who is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. BBC’s ‘River’ Soundtrack Announced

riverSilva Screen Records will release a soundtrack album for the BBC series River. The album features selections from the show’s original music composed by Harry Escott (Shame, Hard Candy, A Mighty Heart, Welcome to the Punch). Also included is the song I Love to Love performed by Tina Charles. The soundtrack will be released overseas on November 13, 2015 and in the U.S. on December 4. Visit Amazon to download the soundtrack. River is written and created by Abi Morgan (Shame, Suffragette) and stars Stellan Skarsgård, Nicola Walker, Adeel Akhtar, Lesley Manville, Eddie Marsan, Sorcha Cusack and Georgina Rich. BT Scoring ABC’s ‘Wicked City

wicked-cityBT has announced on Twitter that he has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming ABC drama Wicked City. He is co-scoring the series with Mike DiMattia. The series is created by Steven Baigelman (Get on Up) and stars Ed Westwick, Erika Christensen, Jeremy Sisto, Taissa Farmiga, Gabriel Luna, Anne Winters, Karolina Wydra, Evan Ross and Jaime Ray Newman. The show follows a unique case set in Los Angeles, starting with a murder case from 1982 centered on the rock ’n’ roll, cocaine-infused revelry of the Sunset Strip. Baigelman also serves as an executive producer on the ABC Studios production, alongside Todd Lieberman & David Hoberman (The Fighter, The Proposal), Laurie Zaks (Castle) and Jon Cassar (24). ‘Racing Extinction’ Soundtrack Announced

racing-extinctionRumor Mill Records will release a soundtrack album for the documentary Racing Extinction. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee J. Ralph (Lucky Number Slevin, The Cove, Chasing Ice, Meru). Also included are two original songs, on which the composer collaborated with Sia and Antony Hegarty. The soundtrack will be released on November 6, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Racing Extinction is directed by Louie Psihoyos and focuses on how close our planet is to the loss of thousands of species. The movie centers on the most epic loss of biodiversity since the dinosaurs died out, from illegal trade in wildlife to the carbon emissions threatening our way of life. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival was released in select theaters this past September by Abramorama and will premiere globally on the Discovery Channel on December 2, 2015. John Debney to Score NBC’s ‘Game of Silence’

John Debney is composing the music for the upcoming NBC drama Game of Silence. The show is created by David Hudgins (Parenthood, Friday Night Lights) and stars David Lyons, Michael Raymond-James, Larenz Tate, Bre Blair, Conor O’Farrell Deidrie Henry, Demetrius Grosse and Claire van der Boom. The series follows a successful Atlanta attorney whose long-lost childhood friends unexpectedly reappear after 25 years and threaten to expose a dark, violent secret from their past. Hudgins is also producing the Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television production with Carol Mendelsohn (CSI, CSI: Miami), Julie Weitz, Timur Savci, Tariq Jalil and Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Dead Man Down) who also directed the pilot episode.
