The American Film Institute (AFI) announced today that Steven Spielberg will present John Williams with the organization’s 44th Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. As previously reported, this marks the first time in AFI history that the honor will be bestowed upon a composer. It was also announced that the televised special, AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to John Williams, will air on TNT on Wednesday, June 15 (10 p.m. ET/ PT), followed by an encore presentation on sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on Monday, June 12, during a night of programming dedicated to Williams.

Bruno Coulais is scoring the upcoming biographical drama Marie Curie. The film is directed by Marie Noelle (The Anarchist’s Wife) and stars Karolina Gruszka in the title role, alongside Charles Berling, André Wilms, Samuel Finzi, Daniel Olbrychski and Sabin Tambrea. The movie tells the life story of Curie, the first-ever woman to win a Nobel Prize for her achievements in physics in 1903 and who later won another Nobel prize in chemistry in 1911. The drama follows two best friends who take one last shot at their dream of opening a restaurant. Republic Records has released the first two songs from the soundtrack for the comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The first single, entitled I’m So Humble is performed by The Lonely Island feat. Adam Levine, and is now available to download on Amazon. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Ottman (X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past & Apocalypse, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and David Buckley (Jason Bourne, The Good Wife, The Forbidden Kingdom). Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD Club series, including a deluxe edition soundtrack for Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 sci-fi movie Starship Troopers starring Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon, Clancy Brown and Michael Ironside. The album features the expanded original score from the Touchstone Pictures production composed and conducted by Basil Poledouris (Conan the Barabarian, RoboCop, The Hunt for Red October, Free Willy), including roughly an hour of previously unreleased music and unused cues. Also included are two songs performed by the composer’s daughter Zoe Poledouris as featured in the movie.
