Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action adventure War for the Planet of the Apes directed by Matt Reeves and starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Karin Konoval and Terry Notary. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Up, Jurassic World, Doctor Strange, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Trek) who previously scored Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Check out our previous article for the full album details.
Also opening wide is the horror thriller Wish Upon directed by John R. Leonetti and starring Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, Mitchell Slaggert, Shannon Purser, Sydney Park, Kevin Hanchard and Sherilyn Fenn. It was announced today at Disney’s D23 Expo that Michael Giacchino will be providing the score for Pixar’s upcoming animated feature Coco. In addition, Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Bobby Lopez (Frozen) have written the original song Remember Me for the movie directed by Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) & Adrian Molina and featuring the voices of Gael García Bernal, Anthony Gonzalez, Benjamin Bratt and Renée Victor. The movie follows Miguel who dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz and finds himself in the Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. There will be also be additional additional songs co-written by Germaine Franco (Dope) and Molina.
A soundtrack album will be released for the comedy Girls Trip. The album features the songs from the movie by artists including Chubb Rock, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, The Soul Rebels, New Edition, GRiZ & Big Gigantic, Missy Elliott & more. Also included is a track from the film’s original score composed by David Newman (Ice Age, Anastasia, Serenity, The War of the Roses). Milan Records has announced a soundtrack album for Destin Daniel Cretton’s drama The Glass Castle. The album features the film’s original score composed by Joel P West (Grandma, I Am Not a Hipster) who previously scored Cretton’s last feature Short Term 12. Also included is the original song Summer Storm written and performed by West (check out a making-of video of the track after the jump) and a cover of Don’t Fence Me In performed by Darla Hawn. The soundtrack will be released on August 11, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on
Record producers/songwriters Leah Haywood & Daniel James (also known as production team Dreamlab) and Rob Ellmore have composed the original music for the upcoming comedy The Layover. The film is directed by William H. Macy and stars Alexandra Daddario, Kate Upton, Matt Barr, Matt Jones, Molly Shannon, Kal Penn and Rob Cordry. The movie follows two single female best friends who find themselves competing for the same guy during an extended layover in St. Louis. David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Lance Krall wrote the screenplay.
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the indie thriller Bushwick. The album features the film’s original music composed by hip hop artist Aesop Rock. The soundtrack will be released on August 25, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on
Dustin O’Halloran and Hauschka have signed on to score the upcoming historical drama The Current War. The film is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Katherine Waterston, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Macfayden and Tom Holland. The movie takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around power titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse’s battle over the supply of electricity. Michael Mitnick (The Giver) wrote the screenplay. Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Night Watch) is producing the project with Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, The Town, John Wick). 
Ala Bianca Records will release a soundtrack album for the psychological thriller Black Butterfly. The album features the film’s original music composed by Federico Jusid (The Secret In Their Eyes, Neruda, Misconduct). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, July 13 and will be available to download on
Andrew Feltenstein, John Nau and Danny Dunlap are scoring the new truTV original series I’m Sorry. The show is created by actress Andrea Savage (Veep, Episodes) who also stars in the comedy as a confident comedy writer, wife and mom, who comically exposes her inner immaturity and neuroses through unexpected life situations. Tom Everett Scott, Olive Petrucci, Jason Mantzoukas, Nelson Franklin, Martin Mull and Kathy Baker are co-starring. Savage is also executive producing the project with Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell & Adam McKay (The Big Short, Talladega Nights), Joey Slamon, Jason Zaro (Brigsby Bear), Billy Rosenberg and Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone & Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Stopping, Hot Rod).
