The Scottish hip hop trio Young Fathers (Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole & ‘G’ Hastings) are composing the original music for the upcoming post-apocalyptic horror feature 28 Years Later. The film is directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting) and stars Jodie Comer, ​Aaron Taylor-Johnson, ​Jack O’Connell, ​Alfie Williams ​and Ralph Fiennes. The movie takes place 28 years after the events of the 2002 original 28 Days Later film and its sequel 28 Weeks Later (both scored by John Murphy) and follows a group of survivors who have found ways to exist amidst the infected on a small island. When one of them leaves the island on a mission into the heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well. Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the horror movie Final Destination: Bloodlines directed by Zach Lipovsky & Adam B. Stein and starring Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Brec Bassinger, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, Richard Harmon and Tony Todd.  The film’s original music is composed by Tim Wynn (Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Freaks, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, XCOM 2, Warhawk, Mech-X4, The Starving Games). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening wide is the musical psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow co-written and directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd), Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Tesfaye has also co-scored the movie with Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) (Uncut GemsGood Time, The Mountain, The Bling Ring) have composed the film’s original score. No word on a score release. Decca Records has announced the premiere vinyl release of the soundtrack album for the 2005 drama Pride and Prejudice directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Brenda Blethyn, Donald Sutherland, Rosamund Pike, Tom Hollander, Jena Malone, Penelope Wilton and Judi Dench. The album, which is being released to coincide with the movie’s 20th anniversary, features the film’s Academy Award-nominated original score composed by Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina,V for Vendetta, Kubo and the Two Strings, Ghostbusters: Frozen EmpireBumblebee), performed by pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and the English Chamber Orchestra. The soundtrack will be released on June 27 as a standard vinyl re-issue of the original soundtrack with original artwork, as well as a newly designed limited “deluxe” edition vinyl housed in a deluxe gatefold jacket featuring a 16-page booklet with rare photos. Netflix Music has released a soundtrack album for the South Korean Netflix original series Dear Hongrang. The album features three songs from the show by 4BOUT, Kwon Jin Ah & Tejong, as well as score tracks by composers including Choe Jeong In, Kim Yeon Jeong, Yoon Chae Young, Julia Jung Un Suh and Park Jung Eun. Dear Hongrang is created by Kim Hong-sun & Kim Jin-a and stars Lee Jae-wook, Cho Bo-ah, Jung Ga-ram, Park Byung-eun, Uhm Ji-won and Kim Jae-uck. The mystery romance period drama follows the son of a powerful Joseon merchant who went missing as a child. Available to stream/download on all major digital music services is No Room for a Saint co-written (with Toby Scott) and performed by Dom Dolla feat. Nathan Nicholson. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Ben Onono (Missing YouHalf of a Yellow Sun, Safe, Ridley RoadSpell, Paranoid, Trust Me). Charles Strouse (1928-2025)

Charles Strouse passed away today at age 96 at his home in New York. The composer/lyricist, best known for his work on Broadway musicals such as Bye Bye Birdie, Annie & Applause, has also composed numerous songs and scores for film and television. His scoring credits include Arthur Penn’s 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde, for which he received a Grammy Award nomination, as well as Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s 1970 western There Was a Crooked Man…, William Friedkin’s 1968 musical comedy The Night They Raided Minsky’s and Sidney Lumet’s 1980 comedy Just Tell Me What You Want. He also co-wrote Those Were the Days, the theme song for the  sitcom All in the Family, and penned original songs for Don Bluth’s 1989 animated classic All Dogs Go to Heaven. Strouse was honored with a Primetime Emmy Award for the song Let’s Settle Down (written with Lee Adams) for 1995’s television adaptation of Bye Bye Birdie. Read the rest of this entry »

Composer, performer and violinist Paris Hurley (aka Object As Subject) has made her feature scoring debut on the upcoming drama The Chronology of Water. The film marks actress Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut and stars Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, Charles Carrick, Tom Sturridge, Esme Creed Miles, Susanna Flood, Kim Gordon, Michael Epp and Jim Belushi. The movie is based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s autobiographical bestseller and follows the author’s journey to find her own voice in an “exploration of how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories.” Read the rest of this entry »
