Video Game creative director Neil Druckmann announced on Twitter that Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain, Babel, 21 Grams, The Motorcycle Diaries, The Book of Life) is attached to compose the music for the upcoming HBO original series The Last of Us. The show based the PlayStation video game of the same title developed by Naughty Dog, which takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed and follows a hardened survivor who is hired to smuggle a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Hangover Part II & III) is writing the TV show and will also executive producing the Sony Pictures Television production with Druckmann, Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones, Treme) and Naughty Dog president of game development Evan Wells. The movie is based on Eileen Chang’s short story Aloeswood Incense and tells the story of a young woman from Shanghai who travels to Hong Kong, borrows money, and falls in with a rich crowd whose luxury lifestyle is beyond her means.
