Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the sports drama F1 directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Kim Bodnia and Tobias Menzies. The film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer (The Lion King, The Dark Knight, Inception, Dune, Gladiator, Interstellar, Pirates of the Caribbean, Man of Steel). Atlantic Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the movie by artists including Don Toliver feat. Doja Cat, Tate McRae, Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton, Tiësto, Dom Dolla, as well as a separate soundtrack featuring both the songs and Zimmer’s score today. Lalo Schifrin passed away today at age 93 of complications from pneumonia. The Grammy Award-winning Argentinian composer, best known his Mission: Impossible theme written for the 1960s TV series and used in the Tom Cruise-starring feature franchise, wrote numerous scores for film and television over a six decades-spanning career. He earned six Academy Award nominations for his scores for Stuart Rosenberg’s 1967 drama Cool Hand Luke, 1976 feature Voyage of the Damned & 1979 horror classic The Amityville Horror, Mark Rydell’s 1967 drama The Fox and Jeremy Paul Kagan’s 1983 comedy The Sting II and the original song People Alone from Joel Oliansky’s 1980 movie musical The Competition.
