The Newton Brothers have signed on to score the dark comedy Pawn Shop Chronicles. The film is directed by Wayne Kramer and stars Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser, Elijah Wood, Vincent D’Onofrio, Pell James, Thomas Jane, Lukas Haas, Chi McBride, Ashlee Simpson, Kevin Rankin, DJ Qualls, Michael Cudlitz and Norman Reedus. The movie centers on a missing wedding ring which leads to a wild-goose chase involving meth addicts, skinheads and an Elvis impersonator. Walker is also producing the film with Jordan Schur & David Mimran (Stone, Henry’s Crime), Nick Thurlow and Steven Schneider (Insidious, The Bay). Adam Minarovich has written the screenplay. Kramer has previously worked with composer Mark Isham on his last three features (The Cooler, Running Scared, Crossing Over).

‘The Last Exorcism Part II’ to Feature Music by Michael Wandmacher
Michael Wandmacher is scoring the upcoming horror sequel The Last Exorcism Part II. The film is directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly (Small Town Murder Song) and stars Ashley Bell who is found alone and terrified in the woods after the events from the previous movie. Gass-Donnelly has also co-written the screenplay with Damien Chazelle. Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) returns to produce the sequel alongside Eli Roth alongside Marc Abraham, Thomas A. Bliss & Eric Newman (Children of Men, Dawn of the Dead) for Strike Entertainment. Roth’s regular musical collaborator Nathan Barr (Hostel, True Blood) has previously scored the 2010 original film in the series.
Edward Sharpe’s Alex Ebert to Score J.C. Chandor’s ‘All is Lost’
Alex Ebert has been hired to score the upcoming adventure drama All is Lost. The film is written and directed by J.C. Chandor and stars Robert Redford as a man who gets lost at sea and struggles against the elements to stay alive. Neal Dodson & Anna Gerb (Margin Call), Justin Nappi (Arbitrage) and Teddy Schwarzman (At Any Price) are producing the Before The Door Pictures and Washington Square Films production. The movie marks Chandor’s second film following last year’s critically acclaimed Margin Call, which featured a score by Nathan Larson. Ebert is best known as the lead singer and songwriter for L.A. indie rock band Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The project marks his film scoring debut. All is Lost is currently in post-production and is expected to be released next year by Lionsgate. (Variety)
Mychael Danna to Score Atom Egoyan’s ‘The Devil’s Knot’
Mychael Danna is reuniting with director Atom Egoyan to score the upcoming drama The Devil’s Knot. The movie is based on Mara Leveritt’s bestselling book West Memphis Three and stars Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon, Dane DeHaan, Amy Ryan, Mireille Enos, Kevin Durand, Bruce Greenwood, Alessandro Nivola, Stephen Moyer, Collette Wolfe, Kris Polaha and Kristopher Higgins. The movie tells the true story of three teens who were wrongly convicted of murdering three boys in 1993. Scott Derrickson & Paul Harris Boardman (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) have written the screenplay and Boardman is also producing the Worldview Entertainment production with Elizabeth Fowler, Clark Peterson (Monster, Rampart), Richard Saperstein and Christopher Woodrow (James Gray’s upcoming Nightingale). Danna and Egoyan have been collaborating for over 20 years on such films as The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica, Where the Truth Lies, Ararat and Chloe.
Stephen Trask Scoring Paul Weitz’s ‘Admission’
Stephen Trask is reteaming with director Paul Weitz on the upcoming comedy Admission. The film starring Tina Fey and Paul Rudd follows an unmarried college admissions counselor who falls for a former classmate. Michael Sheen, Lily Tomlin, Wallace Shawn, Gloria Reuben and Nat Wolff are co-starring in the Focus Features production. Karen Croner (One True Thing) has written the screenplay and Weitz is producing the project with Kerry Kohansky-Roberts (Nick and Norah’s Ultimate Playlist) and Andrew Miano (A Single Man). Trask has previously collaborated with Weitz on such films as In Good Company, American Dreamz, Cirque du Freak and Little Fockers.
Alexandre Desplat to Reunite with Wes Anderson on ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’
Alexandre Desplat revealed in a recent interview with RedCarpetNewsTV at the London premiere of Dreamworks’s Animation’s Rise of the Guardians that he will be reuniting with director Wes Anderson on his next film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Ralph Fiennes, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Saoirse Ronan are attached to star in the film produced by Anderson, Scott Rudin (No Country for Old Men, The Social Network), Steven Rales and Jeremy Dawson (Moonrise Kingdom). The movie is set to start shooting in January of next year. The project will mark the composer’s third collaboration with the director following The Fantastic Mr. Fox and this year’s Moonrise Kingdom.
Daniel Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans Scoring ‘Magic Magic’
Daniel Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans are scoring the upcoming psychological thriller Magic Magic. The film is written and directed by Sebastián Silva (The Maid) and stars Michael Cera, Juno Temple, Emily Browning and Catalina Sandino Moreno. The movie follows a young American who is vacationing with her friends in a remote part of Chile and begins to mentally unravel and enter into a world of disturbing landscapes and crushing terror. The thriller is produced by Frida Torresblanco (Pan’s Labyrinth) for Braven Films, Christine Vachon (Boys Don’t Cry, Far from Heaven) for Killer Films and Mike White (Nacho Libre) & David Bernad (HBO’s Enlightened) for Rip Cord Productions.
Rachel Portman Scoring ‘Still Life’
Rachel Portman is currently recording her score for the British comedy drama Still Life. The film is written and directed by the composer’s husband Uberto Pasolini and stars Eddie Marsan, Joanne Froggatt, Karen Drury, Andrew Buchan and Brosnon Webb. The movie follows a case worker who looks for relatives of those found dead alone. Pasolini is also producing the Red Wave/Embargo Films production with Christopher Simon & Felix Vossen (The Sweeney, Pusher). Pasolini who received an Academy Award nomination for producing The Full Monty has previously worked with Portman as a producer on such films as The Closer You Get, The Emperor’s New Clothes and Bel Ami.
Bear McCreary Scoring ‘The Europa Report’
Bear McCreary is the composer of the upcoming sci-fi thriller The Europa Report. The film is directed by Sebastián Cordero and stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Michael Nyqvist, Daniel Wu, Anamaria Marinca, Christian Camargo and Karolina Wydra. The movie follows six astronauts who go to Jupiter’s fourth moon, Europa, to try to find extraterrestrial life. Philip Gelatt has written the screenplay and Ben Browning (It’s Kind of a Funny Story, Ondine) and Kevin Misher (Public Enemies, The Interpreter) are producing the Wayfare Entertainment and Misher films production. Cordero is best know for directing the 2004 crime thriller Chronicles. Europa Report marks his first collaboration with the Battlestar Galactica and The Walking Dead composer.
Rupert Gregson-Williams to Score ‘Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re the One’
Rupert Gregson-Williams has been tapped to score the British animated feature Postman Pat: The Movie – You Know You’re the One. The film is directed by Mike Disa (Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil) and features the voice talent of Stephen Mangan, Jim Broadbent, Kate Winslet, Rupert Grint and David Tennant. Kim Full (Spice World) and Annika Bluhm who have been producing the Postman Pat TV show have written the screenplay. The movie follows the title character as he is facing a moral crisis and comes face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition.
