Ennio Morricone is set to reunite with director Giuseppe Tornatore on the director’s upcoming romantic drama The Correspondence. The movie centers on the love affair between a professor and a younger woman working in the same field. No casting deals have been announced yet, but a well-known male actor is reportedly in talks for the leading role. Arturo Paglia and Isabella Cocuzza (The Best Offer) are producing the Paco Cinematografica and Warner Bros Italy production. Morricone’s and Tornatore’s previous collaborations include such films as Cinema Paradiso, Malena, The Legend of 1900, Baaria and last year’s The Best Offer.

‘The Wilderness of James’ to Feature Music by Jónsi & Alex
Jónsi & Alex have written the music for the indie coming-of-age drama The Wilderness of James. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Michael Johnson and stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Virginia Madsen, Isabelle Fuhrman, Evan Ross and Danny DeVito. The movie follows a boy dealing with the absence of his father who begins to explore the wilderness of an intoxicating city. Through an infatuating girl and a charismatic stranger, he starts to open his eyes as he’s forced to deal with some hard truths. Johnson has also written the screenplay. Jonathan Schwartz (Like Crazy, Smashed) and Andrea Sperlig (Harsh Times) are producing the project for Super Crispy Enterainment. Jónsi & Alex is a collaboration of Sigur Rós frontman Jonsi and his partner Alex Somers.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score Barry Levinson’s ‘The Humbling’
Marcelo Zarvos will be reteaming with director Barry Levinson (Rain Man) on the upcoming drama The Humbling. The film is based on a novel by Philip Roth (The Human Stain) and stars Al Pacino, Dianne Wiest, Greta Gerwig, Kyra Sedgwick, Mandy Patinkin and Charles Rodin. The movie follows an aging actor who has an affair with a lesbian woman half his age at a secluded country house in Connecticut. Levinson and Pacino are also producing the project with Jason Sosnoff. Zarvos has previously collaborated with Levinson on his last two theatrical features What Just Happened and The Bay, as well as on the HBO original movie You Don’t Know Jack.
Henry Jackman to Score Seth Rogen’s & Evan Goldberg’s ‘The Interview’
Henry Jackman is set to reunite with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg on the upcoming comedy The Interview. Rogen is also starring in film alongside James Franco and Lizzy Caplan. The movie centers on a talk show host and his producer who find themselves out of their depths when they participate in a plot to assassinate the North Korean prime minister. Rogen and Goldberg have also written the screenplay and are producing the project with James Weaver (Neighbors) for Point Grey Pictures. Jackman has previously collaborated with Rogen and Goldberg on their directorial debut This Is the End, which grossed over $100 Mio. domestically last summer.
John Paesano Scoring ‘When the Game Stands Tall’
John Paesano is composing the music for the upcoming sports drama When the Game Stands Tall. The film is directed by Thomas Carter and stars Jim Caviezel, Laura Dern, Michael Chiklis and Alexander Ludwig. The movie follows the high school team of De La Salle and its young coach Bob Ladouceur who turned the perennial loser into a legend by launching a streak of 138 straight victories. Scott Marshall Smith (The Score, Men of Honor) has written the screenplay based on the book of the same title by Neil Hayes. David Zelon (Soul Surfer, Into the Blue) is producing the Mandalay Pictures production.
Thomas Newman to Score ‘The Judge’ and James Brown Biopic ‘Get On Up’
Thomas Newman has signed on to score the upcoming legal drama The Judge. The film is directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers, Shanghai Knights, The Change-Up) and stars Robert Downey Jr., Robert Duvall, Vincent D’Onofrio, Vera Farmiga, Melissa Leo, Dax Shepard, Leighton Meester and Billy Bob Thornton. The movie follows a big-city lawyer who returns to his childhood home where his estranged father, the town’s judge, is suspected of murder. Nick Schenk (Gran Torino) has written the original screenplay. David Seidler (The King’s Speech) and Robert Dubuque were hired to rewrite the script.
The Newton Brothers to Score ‘The Prince’ and Mike Flanagan’s ‘Somnia’
The Newton Brothers have been tapped to score the upcoming action thriller The Prince. The film is directed by Brian A Miller (House of the Rising Sun, Officer Down) and stars Bruce Willis, John Cusack, Jason Patric, Rain, Curtis “5o Cent” Jackson and Jonathan Schoech. The movie follows a man who confronts a retired Las Vegas mob enforcer forced to return to the city when his daughter goes missing. Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore (Red Dawn, Special) have written the screenplay. Randall Emmett & George Furla (Lone Survivor, 2 Guns, End of Watch) are producing the project for Emmett/Furla Films, alongside Adam Goldworm for Aperture Entertainment.
Randy Edelman to Score Rob Cohen’s ‘The Boy Next Door’
Randy Edelman has been hired to score the upcoming thriller The Boy Next Door. The film is directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) and stars Jennifer Lopez, Ryan Guzman, Kristin Chenoweth and John Corbett. The movie follows a newly separated mother who begins an affair with a new teenage neighbor who befriends her son. Barbara Curry has written the screenplay. Jason Blum (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) is producing the project through his Blumhouse production company alongside John Jacobs (Ted, Blades of Glory) for Smart Entertainment, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas (Mona Lisa Smile, Maid in Manhattan) for Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions and Benny Medina (The Fosters, The Fighting Temptations).
Alexandre Desplat to Score Roman Polanski’s Dreyfus Affair Drama ‘D’
Alexandre Desplat revealed during a conversation and performance of his Oscar-nominated score for Philomena on Sunday afternoon at the Beverly Hills Hotel that he will be reteaming with Roman Polanski on the director’s next movie D. The film tells the true story of Albert Dreyfus, one of the few Jewish officers on the General Staff of the French Army, who was subjected to a secret court martial for passing secrets to the Germans. Robert Harris (The Ghost Writer) has written the screenplay and Robert Benmussa (The Pianist, High Tension) and Alain Sarde (Mulholland Drive, Vera Drake) are serving as producers. The political thriller will mark the fourth collaboration between the composer and Polanski following 2010’s The Ghost Writer, 2011’s Carnage and last year’s Venus in Fur.
David Wingo Scoring ‘Maggie’ and Jeff Nichols’ ‘Midnight Special’
David Wingo has signed on to score the upcoming zombie thriller Maggie . The film is directed by Henry Hobson and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Abigail Breslin and Joely Richardson. The movie centers on a farm family who helps their eldest daughter come to terms with her infection as she slowly becomes a flesh-eating zombie as a virus spreads across the country. John Scott 3 has written the Black List-honored script. Schwarzenegger is also producing the project with Pierre-Ange Le Pogam (Colombiana, Hitman), Matt Baer (City by the Sea, View from the Top), Trevor Kaufman, Colin Bates and Joey Tufaro.
