Tuomas Kantelinen has been tapped to score the upcoming caper comedy Lost in Austin. The film is directed by Will Raee and stars Linda Cardellini, Jason Lee, Craig Robinson, Skeet Ulrich, Kristen Schaal and Ursula Parker. The movie follows a wife and mother who comes up with a plan to make her family instant celebrities by having her ex-boyfriend kidnap her 11-year-old daughter for a month. Raee has also written the screenplay with Brenna Graziano. Gary Ousdahl is producing the project for Up Late Productions, alongside Suzanne Weinert (ExTerminators) for Flatiron Pictures. Kantelinen’s previous film scoring credits include Renny Harlin’s Mindhunters and The Legend of Hercules, as well as Sergey Brodov’s Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan.

David Julyan to Score ‘Second Origin’
David Julyan is set to score the upcoming sci-fi romance Second Origin. The film is directed by Carlea Porta and stars Rachel Hurd-Wood, Andrés Batista, Ibrahim Mane and Sergi López. The movie based on the Spanish bestselling novel Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen by Manuel de Pedrolo is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows two young people who are struggling to survive in a world left in ruins. Oscar Rodriguez is producing the project for Antàrtida Produccions, alongside Christine Alderson (Valhalla Rising) for Ipso Facto Productions. Second Origin is currently being shot in Lleida and Barcelona.
‘Walter’ to Feature Music by Dan Romer
Dan Romer has composed the music for the upcoming indie comedy Walter. The film is directed by Anna Mastro and stars Andrew J. West, Virginia Madsen, William H. Macy, Justin Kirk, Neve Campbell, Leven Rambin, Peter Facinelli and Milo Ventimiglia. The movie centers on an usher at a movie theater who believes he is the son of God, with the responsibility of deciding whether people spend eternity in heaven or hell. Paul Shoulberg has written the screenplay based on his own short story and Mark & Christine Holder (I Will Follow You Into the Dark), Brenden Hill, Ryan Harris and Benito Mueller (The Whistleblower) are producing the Zero Gravity, Purple Bench Films, Barry Films and Demarest Films production.
David Wittman Scoring Dito Montiel’s ‘Boulevard’
David Wittman has recently composed the score for the upcoming indie drama Boulevard. The film is directed by Dito Montiel and stars Robin Williams, Roberto Aguire, Kathy Baker and Bob Odenkirk. The movie follows a devoted husband in a marriage of convenience who encounters a guarded young man who forces him to come to terms with his own secrets. Douglas Soesbe has written the screenplay. Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso & Mia Chang (Struck By Lightning) are producing the project for Camellia Entertainment along with Jeffrey Gelber and Ryan Belenzon for Evil Media Empire.
Dario Marianelli to Score Simon West’s ‘Heat’
Dario Marianelli is composing the score for the upcoming crime thriller Heat. The film is directed by Simon West (Con Air, The Expendables 2, Tomb Raider) and stars Jason Statham, Sofia Vergara, Stanley Tucci, Michael Angarano, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Anne Heche, Jason Alexander, Max Casella, Hope Davis and Milo Ventimiglia. The movie follows a recovering gambler-turned-hired bodyguard working in Vegas who decides to help a friend after she is attacked by the mob but gets in over his head as he seeks revenge. William Goldberg (The Princess Bride, Marathon Man) has written the screenplay based on his novel, which has previously turned into a movie starring Burt Reynolds in 1986.
Neil Davidge to Score ‘Monsters: Dark Continent’
Neil Davidge has signed on to score the upcoming sci-fi sequel Monsters: Dark Continent. The film is directed by Tom Green (Misfits) and stars Johnny Harris, Sam Keeley and Joe Dempsie. The movie takes place a couple of years after the original film directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) as Infected Zones have spread across the world and US military try to wipe out the monsters. Jay Basu has written the screenplay. Allan Niblo & Jay Richardson (The Sweeney, StreetDance) and Ben Pugh & Rory Aitken (Welcome to the Punch) are producing the Vertigo Films production. Edwards serves as an executive producer on the sequel alongside actor Scoot McNairy.
DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Almost Home’ Features Music by Lorne Balfe
Lorne Balfe has composed the music for the new DreamWorks Animation short Almost Home. The 4-minute film introduces the characters of the studio’s upcoming feature Home directed by Tim Johnson (Over the Hedge) and featuring the voices of Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Parsons and Rihanna who is also writing songs for the film. Balfe has previously co-scored DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind and will be scoring the studio’s upcoming The Penguins of Madagascar.
Gabriel Yared Scoring ‘The Prophet’
Gabriel Yared is composing the score for the upcoming animated feature The Prophet. The film is written and directed by Roger Allers (The Lion King, Open Season) and features the voice talent of Liam Neeson, Salma Hayek, John Krasinski, Frank Langella, Alfred Molina and Quvenzhané Wallis. The movie is based on the iconic book of the same title by Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran that is one of the biggest sellers in history. Each chapter of the book is directed by a different award-winning director, including Marjane Satrapi (Persepolis), Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells), Nina Paley (Sita Sings The Blues) and Paul & Gaetan Brizzi (Fantasia 2000).
Joel P. West Scoring ‘About Alex’
Joel P. West is the composer of the upcoming indie drama About Alex. The film marks the directorial debut of Jesse Zwick (Parenthood) and stars Aubrey Plaza, Jason Ritter, Max Greenfield, Nate Parker, Maggie Grace, Max Minghella and Jane Levy. The movie follows seven college friends who reunite one long weekend after one of their own attempts suicide. Zwick has also written the screenplay and Adam Saunders (Family Weekend) is producing the Footprint Features production. Edward Zwick (Legends of the Fall, The Last Samurai) who is the director’s father is executive producing the project with Marshall Herskovitz (Traffic).
Marco Beltrami Takes Over Scoring Duties on Michael R. Roskam’s ‘The Drop’
Marco Beltrami has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming crime thriller The Drop. The movie, which was previously entitled Animal Rescue, marks the English language feature debut of director Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) and stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, James Gandolfini and John Ortiz. The film follows a lonely Boston bartender who rescues a puppy from a garbage can and becomes the target of the dog’s abusive and mentally unstable former owner. Dennis Lehane has written the screenplay based on his own short story (Mystic River, Shutter Island). Peter Chernin & Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are producing the project with Mike Larocca.
