Henry Jackman has been tapped to score the upcoming animated feature Big Hero 6. The action comedy adventure directed by Don Hall & Chris Williams (Bolt) is inspired by the Marvel comics of the same title. The movie follows a brilliant robotics prodigy who finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city of San Fransokyo. The Big Hero 6 characters first appeared in 1998 and Marvel later on released a series of six comics featuring the team in 2008. TJ Miller has recently been announced as part of the film’s voice cast. Roy Conli (Tangled, Treasure Planet) is producing the Walt Disney Animation Studios production and John Lasseter is executive producing the project.

George Fenton Scoring Ken Loach’s ‘Jimmy’s Hall’
George Fenton is reuniting with director Ken Loach on the upcoming drama Jimmy’s Hall. The movie stars Barry Ward in the title role, alongside Simone Kirby, Jim Norton, Brían O’Byrne and Andrew Scott. The movie is set in 1932 and follows Irish communist leader James Gralton who returns from a decade in New York to re-open the dance hall he built in 1921. Paul Laverty has written the screenplay and Rebecca O’Brien who regularly works with Loach is producing the Sixteen Films, Element Pictures, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch production. It has been announced that the project will likely be Loach’s final narrative feature.
Lucas Vidal to Score ‘Kidnapping Freddy Heineken’
Lucas Vidal has been hired to score the upcoming thriller Kidnapping Freddy Heineken. The film is directed by Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest) and stars Anthony Hopkins, Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington, Ryan Kwanten, Mark van Eeuwen and Tom Cocquerel. The movie chronicles the 1983 kidnapping of the grandson of the founder of the Heineken brewery and his driver who were released only after a ransom of 35 million Dutch guilders was paid. William Brookfield (Rough Magic, Close Your Eyes) has written the screenplay based on Peter R. de Vries’ bestselling book. Judy Cairo (Crazy Heart, Hysteria) and Michael A. Simpson are producing the project for Informant Media along with Howard Meltzer for Informant Europe.
Christophe Beck to Score ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’
Christophe Beck has signed on to score the upcoming family comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The movie is directed by Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl, Youth in Revolt) and stars Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner, Dylan Minnette, Ed Oxenbould, Megan Mulally, Jennifer Coolidge and Bella Thorne. The movie is based on the 1972 illustrated children’s classic by Judith Viorst and follows a boy who has a very horrible day and finds out that other people can have them too. Rob Lieber has written the screenplay. Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel) is producing the 21 Laps Entertainment production with Dan Levine, alongside Lisa Henson, CEO of the Jim Henson Company.
Nathan Johnson Scoring ‘Kill the Messenger’
Nathan Johnson is composing the score for the upcoming dramatic thriller Kill the Messenger. The film is directed by Michael Cuesta (Homeland, 12 and Holding) and stars Jeremy Renner as Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb. Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosemarie DeWitt, Andy Garcia, Oliver Platt, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Josh Close, Lucas Hedges, Tim Blake Nelson, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper and Michael Kenneth Wiliams are co-starring. The movie follows Webb as he stumbles onto a story which leads to allegations that the CIA was aware of major dealers who were smuggling cocaine into the U.S. and using the profits to arm rebels fighting in Nicaragua. Peter Landesman (Parkland) has written the screenplay.
Gary Yershon Scoring Mike Leigh’s ‘Mr. Turner’
Gary Yershon has reteamed with director Mike Leigh on the director’s upcoming biographical drama Mr. Turner. The film stars Timothy Spall as the British the british landscape painter J.M.W. Turner. Lesley Manville, Rogers Ashton-Griffiths and Julian Seager are co-starring. Leigh has also written the screenplay. Georgina Lowe (Another Year) is producing the project and Gail Egan (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Byzantium) is executive producing. Yershon has previously scored Leigh’s last two features, Another Year and Happy-Go-Lucky, as well as the short A Running Jump. He also served as the music supervisor and arranger of the director’s Topsy-Turvy.
Elia Cmiral Scoring ‘Any Day’ and ‘Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt?’
Elia Cmiral has recently composed the score for the upcoming indie drama Any Day. The film is written and directed by Rustam Branaman and stars Sean Bean, Eva Longoria, Kate Walsh and Tom Arnold. The movie follows an ex-fighter who is transformed by the love and forgiveness he experiences through his 11-year-old nephew. Jeanette Zhou is producing the project for Jaguar Entertainment, alongside Darryl Marshak who is producing for The Marshak/Zachary Co. and Andrew Sugerman (Conviction, Undisputed) for Pantheon Entertainment. Any Day is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere later this year.
David Arnold & Michael Price to Score ‘The Inbetweeners 2’
David Arnold and Michael Price have been hired to score the upcoming British comedy sequel The Inbetweeners 2. The film is written and directed by Iain Morris & Damon Beesley and stars Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison. The movie follows the four friends Jay, Neil, Simon and Will as they visit Australia. Spencer Millman (The Mighty Boosh) is producing the Bwark, Zodiak Media and Film4 production. Arnold and Price have previously provided additional music for the first movie based on the hit TV series of the same title, which was released in 2011 and turned into the highest grossing British comedy of all time at the local box office.
Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau to Score Matt Piedmont’s ‘King Dork’
Andrew Feltenstein and John Nau will be reuniting with director Matt Piedmont on the upcoming comedy King Dork. The film is based on the 2006 novel of the same title by Frank Portman, which follows two best friends who bond over their shared love of classic rock and roll, which helps them cope with the agony of getting through high school in 1987. No casting deals have been announced yet. D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank) is adapting the material for the screen. Will Ferrell & Adam McKay (Talladega Nights, The Other Guys) and Kevin Messick & Chris Henchy (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) are producing the project for Gary Sanchez Productions.
Fernando Velazquez to Score Brett Ratner’s ‘Hercules’
Fernando Velazquez has been tapped to compose the music for the upcoming action adventure Hercules. The film is directed by Brett Ratner and stars Dwayne Johnson in the title role alongside Ian McShane, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, Rufus Sewell, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie and Reece Ritchie. The movie based on the graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars is a revisionist take on the classic myth set in a grounded world where the supernatural does not exist. Ryan Condal and Evan Spiliotopoulos have written the screenplay. Ratner is also producing the project with Beau Flynn (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Barry Levine (Oblivion).
