Rob Cairns has taken over scoring duties on the upcoming thriller The Forger. The movie is directed by Philip Martin and stars John Travolta, Christopher Plummer, Tye Sheridan, Jennifer Ehle, Anson Mount, Abigail Spencer and Marcus Thomas. The film follows an expert art forger who is released from prison so that he can spend time with his dying son when he reteams with his father to carry out one last big job for the syndicate. The screenplay is written by Richard D’Ovidio (The Call, Exit Wounds). Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt & Eugene Musso (You Kill Me) are producing the project with Rob Carliner (Crazy Heart, The Apostle).

Junkie XL to Score ‘Point Break’ Reboot
Junkie XL announced on Twitter that he will be scoring the upcoming reboot of Point Break. The film is directed by Ericson Core (Invincible) and stars Edgar Ramirez, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer and Ray Winstone. The action thriller is set in the world of extreme sports and follows an FBI agent infiltrating a ring of criminals. Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium, Law Abiding Citizen, Salt) has written the screenplay and is also producing the project with Alcon Entertainment’s Broderick Johnson & Andrew Kosove (The Blind Side, Prisoners, Dolphin Tale, Insomnia) and John Baldecchi (The Mexican, Conan the Barbarian) and Chris Taylor.
Ludwig Göransson to Score ‘Rocky’ Spinoff ‘Creed’
Ludwig Göransson has been tapped to score the upcoming boxing drama Creed. The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Anthony Bellew. Stallone stars in his iconic role as Rocky Balboa who acts a trainer for the grandson of Apollo Creed, portrayed by Carl Weathers in 1976’s original Rocky film. Coogler has also co-written the screenplay with Aaron Covington. Robert Chartoff (Rocky series, Ender’s Game, The Gambler) is producing the project with Irwin Winkler (Goodfellas, The Right Stuff, Life as a House), Charles and David Winkler & William Chartoff (The Mechanic), Stallone and Kevin King Templeton (The Expendables, Rambo).
Keefus Ciancia Scoring Jackie Earle Haley’s ‘Criminal Activities’
Keefus Ciancia is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama Criminal Activities. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Jackie Earle Haley who also stars in the movie alongside John Travolta, Dan Stevens, Michael Pitt, Christopher Abbott and Rob Brown. The drama follows a group of four friends who make a risky investment together that puts them in trouble with the mob. Robert Lowell has written the screenplay. Wayne Rice (Valentine’s Day, Suicide Kings, Dude, Where’s My Car?), Howard Burd and Micah Sparks (4 Minute Mile) are producing the Capacity Pictures, Phoenix Rising Motion Pictures and Producer Capital Fund production.
Marcelo Zarvos to Score ‘Our Kind of Traitor’
Marcelo Zarvos has been tapped to score the upcoming spy thriller Our Kind of Traitor. The film is directed by Susanna White (Nanny McPhee Returns, Parade’s End) and stars Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgard, Naomie Harris, Damian Lewis and Jeremy Northam. The movie based on the novel by John le Carre (The Constant Gardener, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) follows a couple who get embroiled with a Russian oligarch and high-profile money launderer while on holiday in Marrakech. Hossein Amini (The Two Faces of January, Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman) has written the screenplay. Simon Cornwell & Stephen Cornwell (A Most Wanted Man) are producing the project for The Ink Factory, alongside Gail Egan (A Little Chaos) for Potboiler.
Mark Mothersbaugh to Return for ‘Hotel Transylvania 2’
Mark Mothersbaugh has signed on to score the upcoming animated feature Hotel Transylvania 2. The film is directed by Genndy Tartakovsky who previously helmed the first installment and features the voice talent of Adam Sandler, Mel Brooks, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Molly Shannon, Jon Lovitz, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Fran Drescher and Cee-Lo Green. The movie follows Dracula’s very old and grumpy vampire father Vlad who turns up at the hotel for an impromptu family get-togethe Robert Smigel (You Don’t Mess with the Zohan) has written the screenplay. Michelle Murdocca (Open Season) is producing the Sony Pictures Animation production.
John Ottman to Return for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’
John Ottman has officially signed on to score X-Men: Apocalypse. The film is directed by Bryan Singer and star Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassebender, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters and Rose Byrne who return in their roles from X-Men: First Class and Days of Future Past. They are joined by new cast members Sophie Turner who will play Jean Grey, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, as well as Oscar Isaacs and Ben Hardy. Simon Kinberg who scripted the previous film in the franchise is writing the screenplay for the sequel, which takes place in the 1980s. Singer and Kinberg are also producing the project with Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker. Ottman will also once again serve as the film’s editor.
Alexandre Desplat Scoring ‘Don’t Tell Me the Boy Was Mad’
Alexandre Desplat is currently scoring the upcoming French drama Don’t Tell Me the Boy Was Mad (Une histoire de fou). The film is directed by Robert Guédiguian (The Snows of Kilimanjaro, Marius and Jeannette) and stars Simon Abkarian, Ariane Ascaride, Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet, Serge Avédikian and Syrus Shahidi. The movie follows a young man from Marseilles of Armenian origin who blows up the car of the Turkish Ambassador in Paris and later decides to meet a victim who was standing nearby and was hurt in the incident to make him his spokesman. Guédiguian has also co-written the screenplay with Gilles Taurand (Thieves, Farewell, My Queen) and also serves as a producer on the project.
Mark Isham to Score Gavin O’Connor’s ‘The Accountant’
Mark Isham is reteaming with director Gavin O’Connor to score the upcoming action thriller The Accountant. The film stars Ben Affleck, Anna Kenrick, J.K Simmons, Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow and Jeffrey Tambor. The movie centers on a mild-mannered accountant and math genius who moonlights as a lethal assassin. Bill Dubuque (The Judge) has written the Black List-honored screenplay. Electric City Entertainment’s Lynette Howell (The Place Beyond the Pines, Blue Valentine, Big Eyes) and Mark Williams (Flawless, Arena) are producing the project. Isham and O’Connor have previously collaborated on the features Miracle, Pride and Glory and Warrior.
Danny Elfman to Compose Additional Music for ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
The latest poster for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron reveals that Danny Elfman is composing additional music for the film written and directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, James Spader, Hayley Atwell, Stellan Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson. As previously reported, Brian Tyler is the principal composer on the project. The movie follows Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye as they battle to save the planet from destruction at the hands of the villainous Ultron. Kevin Feige is producing the project.
