Mychael Danna Scoring Pixar’s ‘The Good Dinosaur’
Mychael Danna is composing the music for Pixar Studios’ upcoming animated feature The Good Dinosaur. The film is directed by Peter Sohn and features the voices of Lucas Neff, John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Neil Patrick Harris, Judy Greer and Bill Hader. The movie is set in a world where dinosaurs have never become extinct and follows a young dinosaur who loses himself after falling into a river, sweeping him far away from his home. Denise Ream (Cars 2) is producing the project and John Lasseter is executive producing.
Carter Burwell to Score ‘The Finest Hours’
Carter Burwell has signed on to score the upcoming disaster drama The Finest Hours. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, Million Dollar Arm, Fright Night) and stars Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Eric Bana, Kyle Gallner and Holliday Grainger. The movie is based on a true story revolving around a rescue attempt by the Coast Guard in 1952 after pair of oil tankers are destroyed during a blizzard. Oscar nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson (The Fighter) and Scott Silver (8 Mile) wrote the screenplay based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.
Howard Shore to Score Thomas McCarthy’s ‘Spotlight’
Howard Shore has been hired to score the upcoming drama Spotlight. The film is directed by Thomas McCarthy (The Visitor, The Station Agent, Win Win) and stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Live Schreiber, Stanley Tucci, John Slattery, Brian d’Arcy James, Billy Crudup and Jamey Sheridan. The movie tells the true story of four members of the Boston Globe’s investigative Spotlight team who sacrificed everything to expose the Boston Archdiocese’s systemic cover up of sexual abuse of children by ordained priests. McCarthy also co-wrote the screenplay with Josh Singer (The Fifth Estate, Fringe).
Daniel Pemberton to Score Danny Boyle’s ‘Steve Jobs’
The first teaser trailer for the upcoming biographical drama Steve Jobs reveals that Daniel Pemberton has been tapped to score the movie. The film is directed by Danny Boyle and stars Michael Fassbender in the title role, Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, former marketing chief of Macintosh, Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley. Katherine Waterston, Michael Stuhlbarg, Perla Haney-Jardine, Ripley Sobo, Sarah Snook and Adam Shapiro are co-starring. Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing, The Newsroom, A Few Good Men) wrote the screenplay based on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling biography of the Apple founder.
Craig Armstrong to Score Oliver Stone’s ‘Snowden’
Craig Armstrong revealed in a recent interview with DIY that he will be reuniting with Oliver Stone on the upcoming biographical drama Snowden. The film directed by Stone (Born on the Fourth of July, JFK, Wall Street, Platoon) stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Scott Eastwood, Melissa Leo, Nicolas Cage, Timothy Olyphant, Zachary Quinto and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is based on the books The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man by Luke Harding and Time of the Octopus by Anatoly Kucherena, which chronicles Edward Snowden’s time in Russia hoping to get asylum while the United States was demanding his extradition. Stone also co-wrote the screenplay with Kieran Fitzgerald (The Homesman).
Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL) Scoring ‘Kill Your Friends’
Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL has composed the original score for the upcoming British indie thriller Kill Your Friends. The film is directed by Owen Harris and stars Nicholas Hoult, James Corden, Craig Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, Tom Riley and Ed Skrein. The movie follows a 27-year-old A&R man who is slashing and burning his way through London’s music industry and goes to extremes in search of the next megahit. John Niven (Cat Run) wrote the screenplay based on his 2008 novel of the same title. Gregor Cameron, Will Clarke and Len Blavatnik are producing the project.
Lucien Nicolet (Luciano) Scoring Barbet Schroeder’s ‘Amnesia’
Lucien Nicolet has recently scored the upcoming drama Amnesia. The film is directed by Barbet Schroeder and stars Marthe Keller, Max Riemelt, Bruno Ganz, Joel Basman and Corinna Kirchhoff. The movie is set in Ibiza and follows a 25 year-old music composer who wants to be part of the nascent electronic music revolution, ideally by getting a job first as a DJ in the new nightclub on the island, Amnesia. Schroeder also co-wrote the screenplay with Emilie Bickerton, Peter Steinbach and Susan Hoffman. Margaret Menegoz (Amour, The White Ribbon) is producing the project with Ruth Waldburger (The Turin Horse).
Natalie Portman’s ‘A Tale of Love and Darkness’ to Feature Music by Nicholas Britell
Nicholas Britell has composed the music for the upcoming drama A Tale of Love and Darkness. The film is written and directed by Natalie Portman who also stars in the film alongside Gilad Kahana and Amir Tessler. The movie is based on the bestselling novel of the same title by Amos Oz and tells the story of Oz’s youth at the end of the British Mandate for Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel. Ram Bergman (Looper, Don Jon, Brick) and David Mandil (Footnote, Beaufort) are producing the project with Portman.
Nicolas Jaar Scoring Jacques Audiard’s ‘Dheepan’
Nicolas Jaar has composed the music for the upcoming drama Dheepan. The film is directed by Jacques Audiard and stars Jesuthasan Antonythasan, Kalieaswari Srinivasan, Claudine Vinasithamby, Vincent Rottiers and Marc Zinga. The movie follows a former soldier, a young woman and a little girl pose who as a family to escape the civil war in Sri Lanka and end up settling in a housing project outside Paris. Audiard also co-wrote the script with Thomas Bidegain (Saint Laurent) and Noe Debre. Pascal Caucheteux (Assault on Precint 13) is producing the project. Audiard’s last couple of features, including the Academy Award-nominated drama A Prophet, Rust and Bone and The Beat That My Heart Skipped were scored by Alexandre Desplat.
