Producer Stuart Fenegan announced in a press release that Clint Mansell is set to reteam with Duncan Jones on the director’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Mute. The film will star Paul Rudd, Alexander Skarsgard and Sam Rockwell. The movie is set in in Berlin, forty years from today and follows a mute bartender whose search for a woman takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, where he encounters an odd pair of American surgeons. Jones (Source Code, Warcraft) has also co-written the screenplay with Mike Johnson. Fenegan (Moon, Warcraft) is producing the project for Liberty Films. Mansell has previously scored Jones’ first feature Moon.

Bear McCreary to Score William Brent Bell’s ‘The Boy’
Bear McCreary has signed on to score the upcoming horror thriller The Boy. The film is directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside, Stay Alive) and stars Lauren Cohan and Rupert Evans. The movie follows a young American woman who takes a job as a nanny in a remote English village, only to discover that the family’s 8-year-old is a life-sized doll that the parents care for just like a real boy, as a way to cope with the death of their actual son 20 years prior. Stacey Menear has written the screenplay. Tom Rosenberg & Gary Lucchesi (Underworld, The Lincoln Lawyer, Crank, The Age of Adaline) are producing the Lakeshore Entertainment production with Richard Wright.
Craig Armstrong to Score ‘Me Before You’
Craig Armstrong has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Me Before You. The film is directed by Thea Sharrock (The Hollow Crown: Henry V) and stars Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Janet McTeer, Brendan Coyle, Matthew Lewis, Samantha Spiro, Vanessa Kirby, Jenna Coleman, Charles Dance, Stephen Peacock and Ben Lloyd-Hughes. The movie is based on the novel of the same title by Jojo Moyes and follows a woman in a small town who forms an unlikely bond with a recently paralyzed man she’s taking care of. Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber (The Fault in Our Stars, The Spectacular Now, (500) Days of Summer) have written the screenplay.
Michael Giacchino Scoring Disney’s ‘Zootopia’
Michael Giacchino is currently composing the music for Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming feature Zootopia. The film is directed by Byron Howard (Tangled, Bolt) & Rich Moore (Wreck-It-Ralph) and features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, J.K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, Jenny Slate and Tommy Chong. The movie is set in a civilization led by animals devoid of human interference, complete with habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown. Clark Spencer (Lilo & Stitch, Bolt) is producing the project and John Lasseter is executive producing. The film marks Giacchino’s first project for Disney Animation.
Alexis & Sam to Score ‘Equity’
Alexis & Sam have signed on to score the upcoming wall street drama Equity. The film is directed by Meera Menon and stars Anna Gunn, James Purefoy, Carrie Preston, Sarah Megan Thomas and Alysia Reiner. The movie centers on a female investment banker who is threatened by a financial scandal and must untangle a web of corruption, forcing her to re-examine the rules of the cutthroat world she has always loved. Amy Fox has written the screenplay for the Broad Street Pictures production.
Nathaniel Mechaly Scoring ‘Shut In’
Nathaniel Mechaly is composing the music for the upcoming psychological thriller Shut In. The film is directed by Farren Blackburn (Hammer of the Gods) and stars Naomi Watts, Oliver Platt, Charlie Heaton, David Cubitt and Jacob Tremblay. The movie follows a widowed child psychologist who lives in isolation in rural New England and must find a way to rescue a young boy caught in a deadly winter storm. Christina Hodson has written the Blacklist-honored screenplay for the EuropaCorp and Lava Bear Films production. Mechaly has previously scored EuropaCorp’s Taken trilogy, as well as the features Colombiana and Angelique and the TV shows Transporter: The Series and Taxi Brooklyn.
John Moreland to Score ‘Boomtown’
Star Fly LLC announced today that John Moreland is set to compose the music for the upcoming drama Boomtown. The film is directed by Sabyn Mayfield and stars Tyler Riggs, Boyd Holbrook, Rachel Brosnahan and Jocelin Donahue. The movie is set in Williston, North Dakota, home of the modern day Gold Rush and follows a man who leaves his family behind to pursue a grueling, yet highly coveted, job in a now booming oil industry. Mayfield also co-wrote the screenplay with David Newbert. Both are also producing the project. Moreland is best known as a folk singer/songwriter.
Julia Holter Scoring Ben Younger’s ‘Bleed for This’
Singer/songwriter has been tapped to score the upcoming boxing drama Bleed for This. The film is written and directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room, Prime) and stars Miles Teller as boxer Vinny Pazienza and Aaron Eckhart as his trainer Kevin Rooney. Katey Sagal, Amanda Clayton and Ciaran Hinds are co-starring. The movie tells the story of the world champion fighter and his trained who helped him to come back to the ring after a near fatal car crash left him with a broken neck. Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Milk, Big Fish), Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street), Younger, Chad Verdi & Noah Kraft (Loosies) are producing the project.
Terence Blanchard Scoring Spike Lee’s ‘Chi-Raq’
Terence Blanchard is currently recording his score for Spike Lee’s upcoming drama Chi-Raq. The movie stars Teyohonah Parris, Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, La La Anthony, John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix and Steve Harris. The film has been described as a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago. Lee has also co-written the screenplay with Kevin Willmott.
David O. Russell’s ‘Joy’ to Feature Music by Danny Elfman
Danny Elfman revealed in an interview with L.A. Weekly that he is working on David O. Russell’s upcoming drama Joy. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Diane Ladd, Virginia Madsen, Isabella Rossellini and Elisabeth Röhm. The movie tells the true story of a struggling Long Island single mom who became one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs after inventing the Miracle Mop. Russell has written the screenplay based on a story by himself and Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids). He is also producing the project with John Davis (Predator, I, Robot, The Blacklist), Jonathan Gordon (Silver Linings Playbook), Megan Ellison (Zero Dark Thirty, Her, Foxcatcher) and Ken Mok (Invincible).
