The film is directed by Juan Carlos Medina (Painless) and stars Bill Nighy, Olivia Cooke, Douglas Booth, Daniel Mays, Sam Reid, Maria Valverde and Eddie Marsan. The movie based on the bestseller by Peter Ackroyd and is set in Victorian-era London and revolves around an intrepid police inspector who investigates a series of brutal killings that seem to be linked to a fearsome creature of Jewish legend. Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass, Stardust) has written the screenplay.

Lorne Balfe to Score Jonathan Teplitzky’s ‘Churchill’
Lorne Balfe has signed on to compose the music for the upcoming biographical drama Churchill. The film is directed by Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man, Burning Man) and stars Brian Cox, Miranda Richardson, John Slattery, James Purefoy and Ella Purnell. The movie is set across the five days before D-Day in 1944 and charts the tension between the British PM and the Allied leaders, including Eisenhower and Montgomery, who are poised to launch the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. British historian and author Alex von Tunzelmann has written the screenplay.
Alan Menken & Lin-Manuel Miranda Team Up for ‘The Little Mermaid’ Live Action Film Adaptation
Deadline is reporting that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will be teaming up to write the music for a live action feature adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The movie version is also said to feature songs from Disney’s classic animated movie, for which Menken won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (with Howard Ashman) and Best Original Score. Marc Platt (Into the Woods, Wanted, Legally Blonde, Bridge of Spies) who is also on board of Disney’s upcoming Mary Poppins Returns will be producing the project. No director and cast members have been announced yet.
Mark Isham to Score ‘The Headhunter’s Calling’
Mark Isham is scoring the upcoming drama The Headhunter’s Calling. The film marks the directorial debut of producer Mark Williams (Flawless) and stars Gerard Butler, Alison Brie, Willem Dafoe, Gretchen Mol and Alfred Molina. The movie follows a ruthless corporate headhunter who battles his rival for control of their job placement company, until a family tragedy brings his personal and professional lives into conflict. Bill Dubuque (The Judge) has written the screenplay. Williams is also producing the Voltage Films, Zero Gravity Management and G-Base production with Butler & Alan Siegel (Olympus Has Fallen), Craig Flores (Charlie Countryman), Nicolas Chartier (The Hurt Locker, Killer Joe) and Patrick Newall (The Keeping Room).
‘Two Is a Family’ to Feature Music by Rob Simonsen
Rob Simonsen is scoring the French comedy drama Two Is a Family (Demain tout commence). The film is directed by Hugo Gelin (Just Like Brothers) and stars Omar Sy, Clemence Poesy and Antoine Bertrand. The movie follows a man whose carefree life on the French Riviera is turned upside down when a former fling suddenly reappears and introduces him to his baby girl before taking off. Gelin has also written the screenplay with Mathieu Oullion (French Cuisine) and Jean-Andre Yerles (The Gilded Cage). Philippe Rousselet (Source Code, Lord of War, Bastille Day) and Stephane Celerier are producing the Vendome and Mars Films production.
Julian Wass Scoring ‘Blue Jay’
Julian Wass is composing the score for the upcoming indie drama Blue Jay. The film is directed by Alex Lehmann and stars Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson. The movie follows two former high-school sweethearts who reflect on their shared past through the lens of their differently dissatisfied presents when they return to their tiny California hometown. Duplass has also written the screenplay and also serves as an executive producer on the project with his brother Jay. Mel Eslyn (The One I Love, Lamb) and Xan Aranda are producing the project.
Hans Zimmer & Pharrell Williams to Score Theodore Melfi’s ‘Hidden Figures’
Hans Zimmer has joined Pharrell Williams to score the upcoming drama Hidden Figures. The film is directed by Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent) and stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, Glen Powell and Kevin Costner. The movie tells the true story of a group of brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Melfi has written the screenplay with Allison Schroeder based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly.
Netflix’s ‘Amanda Knox’ to Feature Music by Saunder Jurriaans & Danny Bensi
Saunder Jurriaans and Danny Bensi have been tapped to score the documentary Amanda Knox. The film is directed by Brian McGinn (Ferrell Takes the Field) & Rod Blackhurst (Here Alone) and recounts the infamous trial, conviction and eventual acquittal of Seattle native Amanda Knox for the 2007 murder of a British exchange student in Italy. Mette Heide (Taxi to the Dark Side) and Stephen Morse are producing the project and Adam Del Deo (The Case Against 8) and Ben Cotner & Lisa Nishimura (Making a Murderer, Chef’s Table, Virunga, Winter on Fire) serve as the executive producers.

Johnny Jewel has recently composed the music for the upcoming Belgian drama Home. The film is directed by Fien Troch (Kid, Unspoken) and stars Sebastian Van Dun, Mistral Guidotti, Loïc Batog, Lena Suijkerbuijk, Karlijn Sileghem, Els Deceukelier, Robby Cleiren, Yavuz Saçikara and Els Dottermans. The movie explores three troubled teenagers’ relationships both with each other and the adult world around them. Troch has also written the screenplay with Nico Leunen who served as the editor on Ryan Gosling’s Lost River, which Jewel also scored.
Paul Leonard-Morgan to Score Errol Morris’ ‘The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography’
Paul Leonard-Morgan has been hired to score the upcoming documentary The B-Side: Elsa Dorfman’s Portrait Photography. The film is directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Errol Morris (The Fog of War, The Unknown Known, The Thin Blue Line, Standard Operating Procedure) and profiles legendary photographer Elsa Dorfman, whose subjects have included such friends as Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, and Jonathan Richman. Steven Hathaway is producing the project and Robert Fernandez (Austenland) & Julia Sheehan serve as executive producers on the Fourth Floor and Moxie Pictures production.
