Johann Johannsson confirmed in a recent interview on the Icelandic radio station RUV that he will be reteaming with Denis Villeneuve on the upcoming Blade Runner sequel. The film stars Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, David Dastmalchian, Hiam Abbass, Jared Leto and Robin Wright. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green (Green Lantern) have written the screenplay. Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiator) who directed the 1982 original film (scored by Vangelis) is producing the project with Broderick Johnson, Andrew A. Kosove (The Blind Side, Insomnia, The Book of Eli).

Benjamin Wallfisch has been tapped to score the upcoming horror thriller Rings. The film is directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall) and stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe, Johnny Galecki, Aimee Teegarden, Bonnie Morgan and Vincent D’Onofrio. The movie is the third part in the Ring franchise and follows a young woman who becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. David Loucka (Dream House), Jacob Estes (Mean Creek) and Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend, I, Robot) have written the screenplay.
H. Scott Salinas & Reza Safinia Scoring George Nolfi’s ‘Birth of the Dragon’
H. Scott Salinas and Reza Safinia are composing the music for the upcoming biographical drama Birth of the Dragon. The film is directed by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau) and stars Billy Magnussen, Xia Yu and Philip Wan-Lung Ng. The movie chronicles Bruce Lee’s emergence as a martial-arts superstar after his legendary secret showdown with fellow martial artist Wong Jack Man. Stephen J. Rivele & Christopher Wilkinson (Ali, Nixon) have written the screenplay. Michael London (Sideways, The Illusionist, House of Sand and Fog) is producing the project with Janice Williams (Trumbo, Love the Coopers), James H. Pang, Leo Shi Young (Painted Skin), Rivele and Wilkinson.
Marco Beltrami to Score Angelina Jolie’s ‘First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers’
Marco Beltrami revealed in a recent interview with Film Score Monthly Online that he is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers. The film directed by Angelina Jolie is based on the non-fiction book by Loung Ung, a Cambodian author and survivor of the Pol Pot regime, and tells the story of her experiences and the horrors she suffered under the rule of the deadly Khmer Rougee. Jolie is also producing the project with Rithy Panh (The Missing Picture).
Dan Jones Scoring ‘Lady Macbeth’
Dan Jones has recently composed the score for the upcoming new film adaptation of Lady Macbeth. The film is directed by William Oldroyd and stars Florence Pugh, Cosmo Jarvis, Paul Hilton, Naomi Ackie and Christopher Fairbank. The movie is set in 19th Century England and follows a young woman who is trapped in a marriage of convenience whose passionate affair unleashes a maelstrom of murder and mayhem on a country estate. Alice Birch has written the screenplay based on Nikolai Leskov’s novel and Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly is producing the project.
Mark Mothersbaugh to Score Marvel’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok’
Mark Mothersbaugh is set to compose the music for Marvel Studios’ upcoming sequel Thor: Ragnarok. The film is directed by Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderness, What We Do in the Shadows) and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban and Mark Ruffalo. Stephany Folsom has written the screenplay and Kevin Feige (The Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy) is producing the project. The previous two Thor movies were scored by Patrick Doyle and Brian Tyler.
Carter Burwell to Score Todd Haynes’ ‘Wonderstruck’
Carter Burwell is set to reteam with director Todd Haynes on the upcoming drama Wonderstruck. The film starring Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams, Oaks Fegley, Cory Michael Smith and Tom Noonan is based on a children’s book by Brian Selznick and traces the gradually weaving stories, set 50 years apart, of two deaf children who both wish their lives had been different: one dreams of a mysterious actress, and the other of the father he has never known. Christine Vachon (Far from Heaven, Boys Don’t Cry, One Hour Photo) is producing the project for Killer Films alongside Pam Koffler (Still Alice) and John Sloss (Boyhood, I’m Not There).

Singer/songwriter Sharon Van Etten has composed the original music for the upcoming indie drama Strange Weather. The film is written and directed by Katherine Dieckmann (Motherhood, Diggers) and stars Holly Hunter, Carrie Coon and Kim Coates. The movie follows a grieving mother who travels the backroads of the Deep South to settle a score. Jana Edelbaum & Rachel Cohen (The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, The Answer Man, Dirty Girl) are producing the drama. The project marks Van Etten’s film scoring debut.

The 3-parter is written by Evan Wright, Seth Fisher & Nick Schenk (Gran Torino, The Judge) and stars Michiel Huisman, Robert Aramayo, Bug Hall, Stephen Rider, Jessica Camacho, Daniel Coonan , Annie Read, Wilson Bethel, Dougray Scott, Gabe Luna, Alex Shaffer, Essa O’Shea and Sean Scully. The drama tells the story of the birth of the iconic Harley Davidson brand launched in 1903 by two friends from Milwaukee, William Harley and Arthur Davidson.
