Toby Chu has recently scored Pixar Animation Studios’ upcoming short Bao. The film is directed by Domee Shi and follows an empty-nesting Chinese mom who gets another chance at motherhood when one of her dumplings springs to life and must come to terms with the bittersweet revelation that nothing stays cute and small forever. Becky Neiman-Cobb is producing the project and Pixar’s Pete Docter (Inside Out, Up) & John Lasseter (Toy Story, Cars) are executive producing.

Cody Fitzgerald & Clyde Lawrence to Score Disney’s ‘Noelle’
Cody Fitzgerald and Clyde Lawrence are reteaming with director Marc Lawrence on Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming fantasy comedy Noelle. The film is written and directed by Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice, Music and Lyrics) and stars Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader, Billy Eichner, Shirley MacLaine and Julie Hagerty. The movie revolves Santa’s daughter who is forced to take over the family business when her father decides to retire and brother ends up getting cold feet prior to his first big Christmas Eve flight. Suzanne Todd (Alice in Wonderland, Memento, Austin Powers) is producing the project. Fitzgerald & Lawrence have previously scored the director’s last feature, The Rewrite.
Nima Fakhrara Scoring ‘Simple Wedding’ & ‘Roll Red Roll’
Nima Fakhrara has been tapped to score the upcoming indie romantic comedy Simple Wedding. The film is co-written and directed by Sara Zandieh and stars Tara Grammy, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Christopher O’Shea, Rita Wilson (who also serves as an executive producer), Maz Jobrani, Houshang Touzie, Peter Mackenzie, Rebecca Henderson, Aleque Reid, Angela Gibbs and James Eckhouse. The movie revolves around a millennial Persian girl navigating a cross-cultural relationship. Zandieh is also producing the project with Ray Moheet and Norman Aladjem (Firewalker) for Mainstay Entertainment.
Marcelo Zarvos Scoring Ondi Timoner’s ‘Mapplethorpe’
Marcelo Zarvos (Wonder, Fences, The Affair, The Good Shepherd) is composing the music for the upcoming biographical drama Mapplethorpe. The film is written and directed by Ondi Timoner (Dig!, We Live in Public) and stars Matt Smith, Marianne Rendón, John Benjamin Hickey, Brandon Sklenar, McKinley Belcher III and Mark Moses. The movie tells the story of art-school dropout Robert Mapplethorpe who quickly became the enfant terrible of the photography world as the downtown counterculture of 1970s New York reached its zenith. Timoner is also producing the project with actress Eliza Dushku, Nathaniel Dushku and Richard J. Bosner.
Michael Nyman Scoring ‘McQueen’ Documentary
Golden Globe nominee Michael Nyman (The Piano, Gattaca, The End of the Affair, Ravenous) has composed the music for the upcoming documentary McQueen. The film is directed by Ian Bonhôte (Alleycats) and centers on Alexander McQueen, the working-class boy who rose from Savile Row tailor’s apprentice to become the most celebrated and controversial fashion designer in the world. Bonhôte is also producing the project with Andee Ryder, Nick Taussig & Paul Van Carter (Churchill, My Name Is Lenny).
Vik Sharma Scoring Stephen Merchant’s ‘Fighting with My Family’
Vik Sharma has composed the original score for the upcoming comedy drama Fighting with My Family. The film is written and directed by Stephen Merchant (Cemetery Junction, The Office) and stars Dwayne Johnson, Vince Vaughn, Florence Pugh, Nick Frost and Lena Headey. The movie is inspired by the Channel 4 British documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family and revolves around a reformed gangster and former wrestler, his wife and their children, who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country.
Laurent Petitgand Scoring Wim Wenders’ ‘Pope Francis – A Man of His Word’
Composer Laurent Petitgand is reuniting with director Wim Wenders on the upcoming documentary Pope Francis – A Man of His Word. The film sets out to present Pope Francis’ work of reform and his answers to today’s global questions, from his deep concern for the poor and wealth inequality, to his involvement in environmental issues and social justice. Wenders (Wings of Desire, Paris, Texas) is also producing the project with Samanta Gandolfi Branca, Alessandro Lo Monaco, Andrea Gambetta and David Rosier.
Rob Simonsen Scoring Rupert Wyatt’s ‘Captive State’
Rob Simonsen has composed the music for the upcoming sci-fi thriller Captive State. The film is directed Rupert Wyatt (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Gambler) and stars John Goodman, Vera Farmiga, Ashton Sanders, Jonathan Majors and Colson Baker. The movie is set in Chicago decades after the inhabitancy of alien forces, and explores the lives of two sides of the conflict: the collaborators and dissidents. Wyatt has also co-written the screenplay with Erica Beeney (The Battle of Shaker Heights) and is producing the Participant Media production with David Crockett (A Cure for Wellness).

Craig Wedren is reteaming with Ken Marino on the upcoming comedy drama Dog Days. The film marks Marino’s second movie as a director and stars Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, Jon Bass, Finn Wolfhard, Tone Bell, Adam Pally, Eva Longoria, Tig Notaro, Rob Corddry, Michael Cassidy, Jasmine & Ron Cephas Jones, John Gemberling, Ryan Hansen, Thomas Lennon, Lauren Lapkus, Jessica Lowe, Toks Olagundoye, Jessica St. Clair and David Wain. The movie follows a group of interconnected people in Los Angeles who are brought together by their loveable canine counterparts. Elissa Matsueda (The Miracle Season) has written the screenplay, with revisions by Erica Oyama.
