Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Wonder Woman 1984 directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Connie Nielsen. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Lion King, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar). Also opening wide is the western News of the World co-written and directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel. James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, The Sixth Sense, Signs, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, King Kong, The Village) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this month. Also opening nationwide is the comedic thriller Promising Young Woman written and directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan, Bo Burnham, Alison Brie, Connie Britton, Adam Brody, Jennifer Coolidge, Laverne Cox, Max Greenfield, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Molly Shannon and Clancy Brown. The film’s original score is composed by Anthony Willis (How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming, One Last Night). Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last week (click here for the album details) and Capitol Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie (click here for more information).
Another movie opening wide in the U.S. is the new film adaptation of Pinocchio written and directed by Matteo Garrone and starring Roberto Begnini, Federico Ielapi, Massimo Ceccherini, Rocco Papaleo, Marine Vacth and Gigi Proietti. Dario Marianelli (Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, V for Vendetta, Kubo and the Two Strings, Anna Karenina, Bumblebee) has composed the film’s original music. Air Edel-Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and an original song this past summer when the movie opened in numerous European markets. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on Amazon Prime on January 15 is the drama One Night in Miami... directed by Regina King and starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge and Leslie Odom Jr. The film’s original score is composed by Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Malcolm X, Inside Man, Perry Mason, 25th Hour). ABCKO Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs performed by Odom, Jr., L.C. Cooke, Jeremy Pope & others on January 15. Opening in select theaters before coming out on VOD on January 8 is the documentary The Dissident directed by Bryan Fogel about the disappearance of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi after entering Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul. Adam Peters (Savages, Snowden, Icarus, The Yellow Birds) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack album.
