Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the supernatural horror thriller The Nun directed by Corin Hardy and starring Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu and Bonnie Aarons. The film’s original music is composed by Abel Korzeniowski (A Single Man, Penny Dreadful, W.E., Nocturnal Animals, Romeo & Juliet). Also opening wide is the action thriller Peppermint directed by Pierre Morel and starring Jennifer Garner, John Ortiz, John Gallagher Jr. and Juan Pablo Raba. Simon Franglen (The Magnificent Seven, Ice, The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair) has composed the film’s original score. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as two songs by Geno Lenardo and Ash Costello. Also opening nationwide is the faith-based drama God Bless the Broken Road directed by Harold Cronk and starring Lindsay Pulsipher, Andrew W. Walker, Jordin Sparks, LaDainian “LT” Tomlinson, Makenzie Moss, Kim Delaney and Robin Givens. The film’s original music is composed by Will Musser (God’s Not Dead, Samson, Do You Believe?). Fair Trade Services has released a soundtrack album featuring songs from and inspired by the movie by Regina Leigh, MercyMe, Micah Tyler, Austin French & more. Opening in limited release is the psychological thriller Cold Skin directed by Xavier Gens and starring Ray Stevenson, David Oakes and Aura Garrido. Victor Reyes (The Night Manager, Buried, Grand Piano, Red Lights) has composed the film’s original music. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the movie opened overseas. Also opening in limited release is the French drama School of Life (L’école buissonnière) directed by Nicole Vanier and starring François Cluzet, Jean Scandel and Eric Elmosnino. The film’s original music is composed by Armand Amar (The Concert, A Bag of Marbles, The History of Love, The Source, Capital). Visit Amazon to download the album. School of Life is set in 1920s France and centers on a orphan who gets adopted by a rustic couple who work for a rural landowner. The movie opened overseas last fall and is being released in the U.S. by Distrib Films.

Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday is the documentary Bisbee ’17 directed by Robert Greene about an old mining town on the Arizona-Mexico border with a dark past. The film’s original music is composed by Keegan DeWitt (I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero, Divorce, Hearts Beat Loud, Gemini, Morris from America). No word on a soundtrack release. The documentary premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by 4th Row Films.
