Two new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this week:
Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the historical thriller Operation Finale directed by Chris Weitz and starring Oscar Isaac, Ben Kingsley, Lior Raz, Melanie Laurent, Nick Kroll, Joe Alwyn, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Aronov, Ohad Knoller and Greta Scacchi. The film’s original music is composed by Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Also opening wide is the sci-fi thriller Kin directed by Jonathan Baker & Josh Baker and starring Jack Reynor, Myles Truitt, Zoë Kravitz, Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid and James Franco. The post-rock band Mogwai (The Returned, Before the Blood) has composed the film’s original music. Temporary Residence has released a soundtrack album featuring the band’s score. Opening in almost 500 theaters is the supernatural horror thriller The Little Stranger directed by Lenny Abrahamson and stars Domhnall Gleeson, Ruth Wilson, Will Poulter and Charlotte Rampling. Stephen Rennicks who previously scored Abrahamson’s Room, Frank and What Frank Did has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music has reeled a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening semi-wide in around 350 theaters is the Mexican comedy Ya Veremos directed by Pitipol Ybarra and starring Mauricio Ochmann, Fernanda Castillo, Eril Hayser and Emiliano Aramayo. Manuel Riveiro (The Green Inferno, Knock Knock, Aftershock) has composed the film’s original score. Sony Music Mexico has released the end credits title song performed by Reik last week. Opening in limited release is the romantic comedy Destination Wedding written and directed by Victor Levin and starring Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves. The film’s original music is composed by William Ross (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, My Dog Skip, Ladder 49, Tin Cup, The Tale of Despereaux). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening in select theaters is the horror thriller Boarding School written and directed by Boaz Yakin and starring Will Patton, Samantha Mathis, Luke Prael, Sterling Jerins, Nadia Alexander, Tammy Blanchard and Lucy Walters. Lesley Barber (Manchester by the Sea, You Can Count On Me, The Moth Diaries, Irreplaceable You) has composed by the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a young boy who becomes fascinated with the persona of his dead grandmother and is sent to an isolated boarding school for misfits, is being released in theaters and on VOD by Momentum Pictures.
Also opening in select cities is the comedy An Actor Prepares co-written and directed by Steve Clark and starring Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Ben Schwartz, Mamie Gummer, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Will Patton, Frankie Faison and Matthew Modine. The film’s original music is composed by Tony Morales (Scorpion, Elena of Avalor, Bloodline). The movie follows a famous, hard-drinking actor who, after suffering a heart attack, is forced to drive across country to make it in time for his daughter’s wedding. The comedy is being released in theaters and on VOD by Gravitas Ventures.
Another limited release this week is the action thriller Reprisal directed by Brian A. Miller and starring Bruce Willis, Frank Grillo and former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo. Giona Ostinelli & Sonya Belousova (The Mist, M.F.A., Sacred Lies, Like Me) have composed the film’s original music. A soundtrack album is in the works. Also opening in limited release is the action thriller S.M.A.R.T. Chase directed by Charles Martin and starring Orlando Bloom, Simon Yam, Lynn Hung, Hannah Quinlivan and Lei Wu. The film’s original music is composed by Mark Kilian (Eye in the Sky, Tsotsi, Pitch Perfect, Rendition, Traitor). The movie centers on washed-up private security agent who has to escort a valuable Chinese antique out of Shanghai but is ambushed en route. The thriller is being released in theaters and on VOD by Universal Pictures.
Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the horror comedy Blood Fest written and directed by Owen Egerton and starring Robbie Kay, Seychelle Gabriel, Jacob Batalon, Barbara Dunkelman and Tate Donovan. The film’s original music is composed by Chøppersaurus. Rooster Teeth Productions has released a soundtrack album featuring the movie’s score earlier this week.
