Two new movies are opening nationwide:
Opening in most theaters is the comedy The Boss directed by Ben Falcone and starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Horrible Bosses, Agent Carter, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2). No soundtrack album has been announced. The Boss follows a titan of industry, who is sent to prison after she’s caught for insider trading and later emerges ready to rebrand herself as America’s latest sweetheart. Also opening wide is action movie Hardcore Henry written and directed by Ilya Naishuller and starring Sharlto Copley, Danila Kozlovsky, Haley Bennett, Andrey Dementyev, Dasha Charusha, Sveta Ustinova and Tim Roth. Dasha Charusha has composed the film’s original score. Sony Masterworks has released two soundtracks, including an album featuring the songs from the film artists including The Sonics, The Temptations, The Drums, The Stranglers and Devendra Barnhart. Opening semi-wide in around 850 theaters is the comedy drama Demolition directed by Jean-Marc Vallee and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts, Chris Cooper and Judah Lewis. The film doesn’t feature any original score. ABKCO Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs featured in the movie by artists including Heart, Free, Eric Burdon & The Animals, My Morning Jacket, M. Ward, Sufjan Stevens & more. Opening in limited release is the psychological thriller The Invitation directed by Karyn Kusama and starring Logan Marshall-Green, Tammy Blanchard, Michiel Huisman, Emayatzy Corinealdi and John Carroll Lynch. The film’s original music is composed by Theodore Shapiro (Ghostbusters, The Devil Wears Prada, Tropic Thunder, Marley & Me). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as two original songs by Craig Wedren & Benjamin Newgard. Also opening in limited release is the drama Louder than Bombs directed by Joachim Trier and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Gabriel Byrne, Amy Ryan, Isabelle Huppert and Devin Druid. Ola Flottum (Force Majeure, Reprise, Oslo, August 31st) has composed the film’s original music. The Orchard has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film by Beck, Tangerine Dream, Medium, Medium, Supreme Jubiles, Sylvester & more. Also opening in select theaters is the dance movie High Strung directed by Michael Damian and starring Keenan Kampa, Nicholas Galitzine, Sonoya Mizuno, Jane Seymour, Richard Southgate, Paul Freeman, Marcus Mitchell, Maia Morgenstern, Ian Eastwood and Comfort Fedoke. The film’s original score is composed by Nathan Lanier (Jem and the Holograms, Justin Bieber’s Believe). A soundtrack album featuring three tracks from the composer’s score, as well as songs by Mohombi, Nia Sioux, Sofi Tyler, Alina Artts, Chris Burkish, Vali, Keith Cullen & more was released today. Also opening in select cities is the action comedy Mr. Right directed by Paco Cabezas and starring Sam Rockwell, Anna Kendrick, Tim Roth, James Ransone, Anson Mount, Michael Eklund and RZA. Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, John Q, Bridge to Teribithia, The Proposal, Sex and the City) has composed the film’s original music. Another limited release this weekend is the indie comedy drama One More Time directed by Robert Edwards and starring Christopher Walken, Amber Heard, Kelli Garner, Hamish Linklater, Ann Magnuson and Oliver Platt. The film’s original score is composed by Joe McGinty who also worked on the movie’s original songs. No word yet on a soundtrack release. One More Time follows an aspiring rock star who is stuck in a rut—relegated to recording commercial jingles and lost in a series of one-night stands and is forced to move into the Hamptons home of her wealthy—and selfish—father. The dramedy premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival and is being released in select theaters and on VOD by Starz Digital.
