Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror feature Obsession written and directed by Curry Barker and stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter and Cooper Tomlinson. The film’s original music is composed by Rock Burwell. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer and singer/songwriter’s score today and Waxwork Records will release a vinyl edition. Also opening wide is the action thriller In the Grey written and directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Kristofer Hivju, Rosamund Pike, Michael Vu, Emmet J. Scanlan, Carlos Bardem, Fisher Stevens and Jason Wong. Chris Benstead (The Gentlemen, Young Sherlock, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Wrath of Man,  Fountain of Youth, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre) has composed the film’s original music. Filmtrax/Atlantic Screen Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Also opening nationwide is the thriller Is God Is written and directed by Aleshea Harris and starring Kara Young, Mallori Johnson, Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, Vivica A. Fox and Sterling K. Brown. The film’s original music is composed by singer/songwriter Moses Sumney and Joseph Shirley (Creed IIIThe Book of Boba FettThe Mandalorian, Bad Trip, Fairfax, The UnderdoggsKiller Heat). Opening semi-wide in around 600 U.S. theaters is the French English-language thriller The Wizard of the Kremlin (Le Mage du Kremlin) co-written and directed by Olivier Assayas and starring Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, Jude Law, Tom Sturridge, Will Keen and Jeffrey Wright. The film doesn’t feature an original score and no soundtrack release is expected. The movie, which takes place in the chaos of post-Soviet Russia and follows rising KGB officer Vladimir Putin as he joins forces with master manipulator Vadim Baranov to reshape life behind the Iron Curtain, premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and is being distributed stateside by Vertical.

Opening in New York this weekend before expanding to Los Angeles next weekend and to more markets in the following weeks is the drama Magic Hour co-written and directed by Katie Aselton and starring Daveed Diggs, Katie Aselton, Brad Garrett and Susan Sullivan. Zachary Dawes (The Summer I Turned PrettyThe Peanut Butter Falcon, Big Time AdolescenceThere’s Someone Inside Your House, The Big Door Prize, A League of Their Own) and Tyler Parkford (Kate Can’t Swim) have composed the film’s original music. Opening in Los Angeles this weekend before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the crime comedy drama Forge written and directed by Jing Ai Ng and starring Kelly Marie Tran, Andie Ju, Brandon Soo Hoo  T. R. Knight, Eva De Dominici, Sonya Walger, Edmund Donovan and Jack Falahee. The film’s original music is composed by Ian Chang of Son Lux (Everything Everywhere All at OnceThunderbolts*) & Marco Carrión (NeonThe Liberation). XO Sauce Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score today. Opening in select theaters and on VOD today is the comedy Driver’s Ed directed by Bobby Farrelly and starring Sam Nivola, Sophie Telegadis, Mohana Krishnan, Aidan Laprete, Molly Shannon and Kumail Nanjiani.
