Lalo Schifrin has been chosen as the recipient of this year’s Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award, which will be presented at the annual Hollywood in Vienna Concert at Vienna Concert Hall on October 22, 2012. The concert will present selections of Schifrin’s compositions performed by the Vienna Radio-Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Newman. The Max Steiner Award honors extraordinary achievements within the genre of film music by the musical capital of Austria, Vienna. Previous recipients of the honor include Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore and John Barry. Schifrin has written over 100 film and television scores including Mission Impossible (including the show’s iconic title theme), Mannix, Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Amityville Horror, Enter The Dragon, four of the Dirty Harry films and the Rush Hour trilogy. Throughout his career, the composer has won five Grammy Awards (twenty-two nominations) and received six Academy Award nominations.
