Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the romantic comedy What Happens Later directed by Meg Ryan and starring David Duchovny and Ryan. The film’s original music is composed by David Boman (Wyrm, Moonshot, Please Hold). Sony Masterworks has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by The Streamline Modernes, Luscious Bandit, The Brentwood Hellows, The Four Words & Sage today. Also opening wide is the thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter directed by Neil Burger and starring Daisy Ridley, Ben Mendelsohn, Garrett Hedlund, Brooklynn Prince, Caren Pistorius and Gil Birmingham. Adam Janota Bzowski (Saint Maud, Black Mirror: Loch Henry, Here Before, Femme) has composed the film’s original music. Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today. Opening in select theaters today before premiering on November 17 on Netflix is the biographical drama Rustin directed by George C. Wolfe and starring Colman Domingo, Chris Rock, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Glynn Turman, CCH Pounder, Gus Halper, Aml Ameen, Michael Potts and Johnny Ramey. The film’s original music is composed by Branford Marsalis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks). Netflix Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as several songs from the movie today (click here for the full album details). Opening in select U.S. theaters today is the Mexican comedy drama Radical written and directed by Christopher Zalla and starring Eugenio Derbez, Daniel Haddad, Mia Fernanda Solis, Jennifer Trejo and Danilo Guardiola. Pascual Reyes (La llorona, Ixcanul) & Juan Pablo Villa have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. The movie, which is set in a Mexican border town and revolves around a frustrated teacher who tries a radical new method to unleash the curiosity and potential of his students, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released in the U.S. by Pantelion Films.
Opening in Los Angeles today before expanding to more markets in the coming weeks is the thriller At the Gates written and directed by Augustus Meleo Bernstein and starring Miranda Otto, Noah Wyle, Vanessa Benavente, Ezekiel Pacheco and Sadie Stanley. The film’s original music is composed by Julia Newman. No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which follows a housekeeper from El Salvador and her teenage son who begin to question whether they’re being protected or imprisoned after an affluent couple offers to hide them from immigration officers, is being distributed by Picturehouse.
Opening in select theaters today following a one-night-only nationwide release last week is the documentary Beyond Utopia directed by Madeleine Gavin about the lengths people will go to gain freedom. Adam Taylor (The Handmaid’s Tale, Before I Fall, The Right Stuff, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Meadowland) & Taylor Page have composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. The film’s original music is composed by Amine Bouhafa (Timbuktu, The Summit of the Gods, Beauty and the Dogs, Gagarine, The Man Who Sold His Skin). 22D Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score this past summer when the movie opened in France. Sasha Gordon (Daphne & Velma, It Had to Be You, I Believe in Unicorns, Ghostwriter) & Victor Magro (Ayar) have composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. The movie, which centers on woman’s life in Mississippi over several decades, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by A24.
