Nainita Desai (For Sama, The Deepest Breath, Crossfire, The Tower, The Reason I Jump, Funny Woman) has composed the original music for the upcoming live-action series Nautilus. The show is developed by Xavier Marchand (Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris) & Anand Tucker (Hilary & Jackie, Shopgirl) inspired by Jules Verne’s classic novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, written by James Dormer (Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands) and stars Shazad Latif, Georgia Flood, Céline Menville & Thierry Fremont and features guest appearances by Richard E Grant, Noah Taylor and Anna Torv. The 10-part adventure drama tells the origin story of the iconic Captain Nemo: an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family and a prisoner of the East India Mercantile Company. Dormer is also executive producing the project, which is being distributed by Disney Entertainment and was originally set to debut on Disney+, with Johanna Devereaux (War of the Worlds, Wedding Season), Chris Loveall (Fortitude, Please Like Me), Colleen Woodcock and Daisy Gilbert. Michael Matthews (Love and Monsters) is the project’s lead director. Nautilus is set to premiere in 2024 on AMC and AMC+.
Desai’s other recent projects include Clair Titley’s The Contestant, which premiered at this year’s Toronto Film Festival and is currently awaiting a release date. She has also co-scored Leslie Shampaine’s & Pip Gilmour’s documentary Call Me Dancer (with Nina Humphreys), which premiered at this year’s Santa Barbara Film Festival and has been picked up by Abramorama for a domestic release in U.S. theaters on December 15.
