Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the comedy Book Club: The Next Chapter directed by Bill Holderman and starring Mary Steenburgen, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, Jane Fonda, Andy Garcia and Craig T. Nelson. The film’s original score is composed by Tom Howe (Ted Lasso, Daisy Jones and the Six, Shrinking, Early Man). Simmons, Chloe Bennet, Jimmy O’Yang, Lisa Lu, Sharon Horgan, Catherine Tate and John Cleese. Tom Howe (A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, Polite Society, The Amazing Maurice, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women) has composed the film’s original music. No word on a soundtrack release. Opening semi-wide in around 800 theaters is the comedy Fool’s Paradise directed by Charlie Day and starring Day, Ken Jeong, Ray Liotta, Adrien Brody, Kate Beckinsale, Common, Edie Falco, Jason Sudeikis, John Malkovich and Jason Bateman. The film’s original score is composed by Jon Brion (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Punch-Drunk Love, Paranormal, Magnolia, Lady Bird) A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works and will be released by Lakeshore Records. Opening in select theaters is the comedy drama BlackBerry co-written and directed by Matt Johnson and starring Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton, Johnson himself, Michael Ironside, Rich Sommer, Martin Donovan and Cary Elwes. Jay McCarrol (The Kid Detective, Operation Avalanche) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been released. The movie, which tells the story of the meteoric rise and catastrophic demise of the world’s first smartphone, premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and is being released by IFC Films.
Also opening in select theaters today is the drama The Starling Girl written and directed by Laurel Parmet and starring Eliza Scanlen, Lewis Pullman, Austin Abrams, Wrenn Schmidt and Jimmi Simpson. The film’s original music is composed by Lord Huron (Ben Schneider). An original song written by the band for the project will be released next Friday, May 19. The movie, which revolves around a young woman who struggles with her place in her Christian fundamentalist community, premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being distributed by Bleecker Street.
Also opening in select U.S. theaters this weekend is the Chinese action drama Flashover directed by Oxide Chun Pang and starring Du Jiang, Wang Qianyuan, Tong Liya, Cecilia Han, Yu Haoming and Elvis Han.
