Sherri Chung (Kung Fu, Riverdale, Batwoman, Blindspot, Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase) has composed the original score for the upcoming Netflix original film Happiness for Beginners. The movie is written and directed by Vicky Wight and stars Ellie Kemper, Luke Grimes, Nico Santos, Ben Cook, Esteban Benito, Shayvawn Webster, Julia Shiplett and Gus Birney. The romantic comedy is based on the novel of the same name by Katherine Center and follows a schoolteacher who ventures toward a fresh start in life after her divorce, when she signs up for a grueling group hiking trip. Wight is also producing the project with Geoff Linville and Berry Meyerowitz (Dead for a Dollar, Out of the Blue). Chung has previously scored Wight’s last feature, The Lost Husband. Happiness for Beginners will premiere on July 27, 2023 on Netflix.
Chung’s other recent projects include Max’s Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai ,which premiered last month, Peacock’s Based on a True Story, which just made its debut last week and the final season of The CW’s Riverdale (co-scored with Blake Neely), which currently airs every Wednesday night.
