Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the period comedy drama Babylon written and directed by Damien Chazelle and starring Margot Robbie, Diego Calva, Brad Pitt, Jovan Adepo, Lukas Haas, Jean Smart, Li Jun Li, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving and Olivia Wilde. The film’s original music is composed by Justin Hurwitz (La La Land, First Man, Whiplash). Interscope Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this month. Already playing in theaters nationwide since this past Wednesday is the animated sequel Puss in Boots: The Last Wish directed by Joel Crawford and starring Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Olivia Colman, Samson Kayo, Wagner Moura, Anthony Mendez, Florence Pugh and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Heitor Pereira (Despicable MeMinions, The Smurfs, The Angry Bird MovieSmallfoot) has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the movie last week. Also opening wide this weekend is the biographical drama Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody directed by Kasi Lemmons and starring Naomi Ackie, Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Nafessa Williams, Tamara Tunie and Clarke Peters. The film’s original score is composed by Chanda Dancy (Devotion, The Defeated). Rodney Jenkins serves as the project’s executive music producer. RCA Records has released a soundtrack album featuring classic Whitney Houston songs. Opening in select theaters today before expanding nationwide in January is the drama Women Talking written and directed by Sarah Polley and starring Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley,Ben Whishaw, Judith Ivey and Frances McDormand. Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker, Chernobyl, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Tár) has composed the film’s original music. Mercury Classics has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score today (pushed back from its original December 2 release date). Also opening in select U.S. theaters today is the British drama Living directed by Oliver Hermanus and starring Bill Nighy, Alex Sharp, Aimee Lou Wood and Tom Burke. The film’s original music composed by Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch (CensorThe Forgotten Battle). Filmtrax/Atlantic Screen Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a song by Lisa Knapp in November when the movie opened in the UK. Opening in New York today before expanding to more markets over the next couple of weeks is the biographical drama Corsage written and directed by Marie Kreutzer and starring Vicky Krieps, Florian Teichtmeister, Alma Hasun, Katharina Lorenz, Jeanne Werner and Manuel Rubey. French singer/songwriter Camille has composed the film’s music. Because Music has released the artist’s song She Was from the movie in five different versions. Also opening in select theaters today before premiering on January 6 on Netflix is the gothic thriller The Pale Blue Eye directed by Scott Cooper and starring Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Lucy Boynton, Toby Jones, Gillian Anderson, Timothy Spall, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Robert Duvall. The film’s original music composed by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Aviator, The Departed, Hugo, The Silence of the Lambs). Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday before premiering on Prime Video next Friday, December 30, is the documentary Wildcat directed by Trevor Frost & Melissa Lesh about a young veteran and his journey into the Amazon. Patrick Jonsson (The White HelmetsBlack Earth Rising Convergence: Courage in a Crisis, VirungaOn Her Shoulders) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score will be announced soon.
