Three new movies are opening in theaters nationwide:

Opening in most theaters is the family drama A Dog’s Way Home directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Ashley Judd, Wes Studi, Alexandra Shipp, Jonah Hauer-King and Edward James Olmos. The film’s original music is composed by Mychael Danna (Life of PiMoneyballCapoteLittle Miss SunshineOn the Basis of Sex). Also opening wide is the comedy drama The Upside directed by Neil Burger and starring Kevin Hart, Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman. Rob Simonsen (Love, Simon, Foxcatcher, Nerve, (500) Days of Summer) has composed the film’s original score. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is in the works and will be announced soon. The movie, which follows a recently paroled ex-convict who strikes up an unusual and unlikely friendship with a paralyzed billionaire, is being released by STX Entertainment. Also opening nationwide is the sci-fi thriller Replicas directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and starring Keanu Reeves, Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch and John Ortiz. The film’s original music is composed by Jose “Pepe” Ojeda and Mark Kilian (TsotsiEye in the SkyPitch PerfectRendition). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composers’ score. Opening in limited release is the Spanish comedy Perfect Strangers (Perfectos desconocidos) directed by Alex de la Iglesia and starring Belén Rueda, Eduard Fernández, Ernesto Alterio, Juana Acosta, Eduardo Noriega, Dafne Fernández and Pepón Nieto. Victor Reyes (The Night ManagerBuried, Down a Dark HallGrand Piano) has composed the film’s original music. Quartet Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last spring. Also opening in limited release is the drama Ashes in the Snow directed by Marius Markevicius and starring Bel Powley, Martin Wallstrom and Lisa Loven Kongsli. The film’s original music is composed by Volker Bertelmann (aka Hauschka) (Lion, Adrift, Gunpowder, Patrick Melrose). No word yet on a soundtrack release. The drama is being released in theaters and on VOD by Vertical Entertainment.

Also opening in select cities is the animated feature Tall Tales (Droles de petites betes)directed by Antoon Krings & Arnaud Bouron and featuring the voices of Kate Mara and Justin Long. Bruno Coulais (Coraline, The Chorus, The Crimson Rivers, The Secret of Kells) has composed the film’s original music. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the sci-fi thriller Against the Clock (originally entitled Headlock) written and directed by Mark Polish and starring Dianna Agron, Mark Polish, Justin Bartha, Patrick Bauchau and Andy Garcia. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Andrews (Bridesmaids, Bad Teacher, The Heat, Freaks and Geeks). No soundtrack album has been announced.
