Four new movies are opening in theaters nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller A Quiet Place directed by John Krasinski and starring Krasinski himself, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Logan, Scream, World War Z, The Hurt Locker, The Wolverine). Also opening wide is the comedy Blockers directed by Kay Cannon and starring Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz, John Cena, Kathryn Newton, Geraldine Indira Viswanathan and Gideon Adlan. Mateo Messina (Juno, Casual, Superstore, Butter, Barely Lethal) has composed the film’s original score. No soundtrack album has been announced. Another movie opening wide this weekend is the drama Chappaquiddick directed by John Curran and starring Jason Clarke, Kate Mara, Ed Helms, Jim Gaffigan, Clancy Brown, Taylor Nichols, Olivia Thirlby and Bruce Dern. The film’s original music is composed by Garth Stevenson (Tracks, Ten Thousand Saints). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening nationwide is the drama The Miracle Season directed by Sean McNamara and starring Helen Hunt, William Hurt, Danika Yarosh and Erin Moriarty. Roque Banos (Don’t Breathe, Evil Dead, Sexy Beast, The Machinist, Risen) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a soundtrack album. Opening in limited release is the dramatic thriller You Were Never Really Here written and directed by Lynne Ramsay and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, Ekaterina Samsonov, John Doman, Alex Manette, Dante Pereira-Olsen and Alessandro Nivola. The film’s original music is composed by Jonny Greenwood (Phantom Thread, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice). Opening in select IMAX theaters is the documentary Pandas directed by David Douglas & Drew Fellman. Mark Mothersbaugh (Thor: Ragnarok, The LEGO Movie, 21/22 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Also opening in limited release is the drama Lean on Pete written and directed by Andrew Haigh and starring Charlie Plummer, Steve Buscemi and Chloe Sevigny. Also opening in select theaters and on VOD is the sci-fi action thriller The Humanity Bureau directed by Rob King and starring Nicolas Cage, Sarah Lind, Hugh Dillon and Jakob Davies. The film’s original music is composed by Todd Bryanton (The Tall Man, The Recall). No word on a soundtrack release. The movie, which takes place in a future, where a government agency called the Humanity Bureau exiles members of society deemed unproductive and banishes them to a colony known as New Eden, is being released by Minds Eye Entertainment. Another limited release this week is the indie horror comedy Lowlife directed by Ryan Prows and starring Jon Oswald, Nicki Micheaux, Mark Burnham and Ricardo Adam Zarate. Kreng (aka Pepijn Caudron) (Cooties, Camino, The Party’s Just Beginning) has composed the film’s original music.
