Four new movies are opening nationwide this week:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi thriller Transcendence directed by Wally Pfister and starring Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara, Cillian Murphy, Clifton Collins, Jr. and Morgan Freeman. Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Little Miss Sunshine, Moneyball) has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. Already in theaters since this past Wednesday is the drama Heaven is for Real directed by Randall Wallace and starring Greg Kinnear, Kelly Reilly, Connor Corum, Margo Martindale and Thomas Haden Church. The film’s original music is composed by Nick Glennie-Smith (We Were Soldiers, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Rock). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is Disneynature’s documentary Bears directed by Keith Scholey & Alastair Fothergill and narrated by John C. Reilly. George Fenton (Groundhog Day, Anna and the King, Gandhi, Hitch) has composed the film’s original music. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score on April 29. The final wide release of the weekend is the horror comedy A Haunted House 2 directed by Michael Tiddes and starring Marlon Wayans, Jaime Pressly, Essence Atkins, Gabriel Iglesias, Missi Pyle, Ashley Rickards, Affion Crockett and Cedric The Entertainer. Jesse Voccia has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring two tracks from the composer, as well as songs by artists including Sean Harris & Saint Maurice, Dula & Khalifa feat. Khat, Soundwell feat. Opening in limited release is the horror thriller 13 Sins directed by Daniel Stamm and starring Mark Webber, Ron Perlman, Rutina Wesley, Devon Graye, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Richard Burgi and Tom Bower. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Wandmacher (My Bloody Valentine 3D, The Goldbergs, Piranha 3D). ScreamWorks Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening in select cities is the indie comedy Fading Gigolo written and directed by John Turturro who also stars in the film alongside Woody Allen, Sofía Vergara, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Max Casella and Vanessa Paradis. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring tracks by Gene Ammons, Trombone Shorty and songs by Dalida, M’Barka Ben Taleb and Dean Martin. Another limited release this week is the dance movie movie Make Your Move directed by Duane Adler and starring BoA, Will Yun Lee and Wesley Jonathan. SM Entertainment has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including the original song Let Me In written by Michael Corcoran & Eric Goldman, as well as other tracks by Candy Coated Killahz, Shannon La Brie, Herman Kelly, Felicia Barton, Jessica, Krystal & Kris, The Outfit, NOLA Fam and more. Also opening in limited release is the indie comedy drama Small Time written and directed by Joel Surnow and starring Christopher Meloni, Dean Norris, Devon Bostick, Bridget Moynahan and Kevin Nealon. Sean Callery (Homeland, Bones, Elementary) who previously collaborated with Surnow on the Fox hit series 24 has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Small Time marks Surnow’s feature directorial debut and follows an owner of a used car lot who is at a crossroad in his life. The movie is being released by Anchor Bay Entertainment.
Also opening in select cities is the documentary The Final Member directed by Jonah Bekhor & Zach Math about Sigurour “Siggi” Hjartarson, the founder of the Icelandic Phallological Museum, the world’s only museum dedicated to preserved male genitalia. The film’s original music is composed by Rob Simonsen (500 Days of Summer, The Spectacular Now, Dollhouse). MovieScore Media will release a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score on April 22. Also opening in limited release is the indie comedy Authors Anonymous directed by Ellie Kanner and starring Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting, Chris Klein, Dennis Farina, Jonathan Bennett, Dylan Walsh, Teri Polo, Tricia Helfer and Jonathan Banks. Jeff Cardoni (CSI: Miami, Just Friends, Wilfred) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. Authors Anonymous follows a dysfunctional group of unpublished writers and is being released by Screen Media.
Another limited release this weekend is the horror thriller Proxy directed by Zack Parker and starring Joe Swanberg, Alexa Havins, Kristina Klebe and Alexia Rasmussen. The film’s original score is composed by The Newton Brothers (Oculus, Pawn Shop Chronicles, Detachment).
